Chapter 28

Chapter 28:
Candice still didn’t answer the call.
Immediately, she rejected it.
Greyson had never loved her back, making their relationship unfair by all standards.
From the beginning, her love for him had eclipsed any sense of pride she might have had. She had not forgotten the anguish and had become consumed by it over the years.
She had tried to make a romantic connection with him for three years. She made it her mission to make him happy and prioritized him above everything else. In the end, she did nothing but waste her time.
The leaves rustled as the breeze swept through. There was a feeling of emptiness beneath the dim streetlights.
Candice took a cab to Greyson’s downtown duplex apartment.
She knew Greyson had used his college earnings to purchase it—an expensive duplex. When exhausted, he would sometimes come here to rest.
Lamont Harman, Greyson’s father, had messed up the family business, so Greyson had to juggle schoolwork with managing the family business when he was an undergraduate.
He gave up his medical career to focus on business instead. Through time and effort, he revived the Harman family to the best of his ability.
One more small adjustment would bring it back to its former glory.
Because of this, Greyson placed great importance on the formula.
Candice retrieved the key, unlocked the door, and changed the code.
However, the moment she stepped inside the apartment, she had a strong intuition that something was wrong.
Moonlight trickled through the window. Someone sat on the sofa, appearing quite lonely.
Candice turned on the light.
Greyson’s attractive face was suddenly illuminated by the bright light.

She couldn’t believe her eyes. Wasn’t he supposed to stay away from here?
What on earth did he mean by showing up?
“How did you know I would be moving in today?” she asked.
Greyson slowly stood up.
“Bettina’s post told me.”
Candice frowned and hurried to check her Facebook. Bettina had written a post saying, “It’s so dull here by myself. I need my pals!”
Defeated, Candice rubbed her forehead. Bettina had betrayed her whereabouts again.
She had done the same at the Starlight Pub. Otherwise, Greyson wouldn’t have known.
“What brings you here?” Candice scowled. She didn’t see Greyson’s visit as a good sign.
“This place has been vacant for quite some time. I’m here to check the Internet,” Greyson said, seeming a bit thrown off.
Candice eventually agreed it made sense after thinking it over seriously.
She planned to send multiple emails to clients worldwide that night, so she needed Internet access.
She made no protest.
She pulled out her laptop and placed it on the table, then went to the second-floor room to unpack her suitcase.
Seeing her laptop on the table, Greyson tried to connect it to the Internet.
He booted up the laptop.
The password entry page appeared on the blue-lit screen.
A small frown formed on his face.
He entered “888888,” but it was invalid.
For a moment, he was lost.
He was clueless about her birthday.
What could the password possibly be?
Suddenly, an idea popped into his head, but he quickly dismissed it. Still, he decided to try it anyway.
He entered his date of birth.
The screen lit up and loaded the home screen.
He sank into disbelief and silence.
His birthdate was the password! For a brief moment, he couldn’t think of anything else.
As he tried to get her laptop online, his fingers went numb.
His mind was flooded with thoughts. He was completely clueless about what he was doing!
Candice walked downstairs after finishing unpacking and found Greyson at the laptop.
Suddenly, she seemed to recall an important forgotten detail. Her eyes widened by the second.
She hurried down the rest of the stairs toward him.
He was already on the home screen!
Crack!
She rushed in front of the laptop and slammed it shut violently.
Her heart was racing!
