“Candice, stop!” Madilyn cried indignantly.
She was about to chase after Candice when Greyson stopped her.
Madilyn turned around, crying as she looked aggrieved.
“Rey, why didn’t you teach her a lesson? She’s getting more and more cocky. She even hit me…”
“Haven’t you had enough?” Greyson asked, his face turning cold. What was enough?
“It was Candice who provoked me first. Don’t be deceived by her, Rey!” Madilyn cried louder.
“I’ll take you back to the dance team,” Greyson said, ignoring her cries as he dragged her away. “You don’t have to perform today.”
Meanwhile, once Bettina and Candice were out of earshot, Bettina asked in confusion, “Why didn’t you help me fight? We could have beaten them up together. Why were you just standing there? Were you afraid of Greyson? Afraid he’d blame you?”
She paused to catch her breath before continuing, “Candice, let me tell you, the more you give in, the less seriously he’ll take you.”
Candice kept quiet, subconsciously touching the emerald bracelet on her wrist.
It was not like Bettina said at all.
Only then did Bettina notice the emerald bracelet. She exclaimed softly, holding up her hand for a closer look. “Oh my God! Where did you get this bracelet? This is an authentic emerald! Damn, it’s so beautiful. How much do you think it’s worth?”
Bettina was born into an affluent family, well-established in finance, real estate, and media. Her three brothers were all CEOs, and they had always spoiled her with luxuries.
“Bettina, how much do you think this is worth?” Candice asked sincerely.
She trusted Bettina’s evaluation.
“It’s hard to say. You might not be able to buy it even if you had a lot of money. It depends on how much the buyer is willing to offer.”
After some thought, Bettina said, “I would buy it for one billion.”
One billion? Candice was shocked.
She was so stunned that she couldn’t form any words in her mind. All she could think about was how to take it off and quickly return it to Milton.
Just then, Bettina thought of something.
“Where did you sleep last night? Did… did Mr. Lopez give this to you? Who else could be so generous besides him? He’s so rich and generous!”
Bettina smiled slyly at Candice and asked, “Have you gotten together last night? Is this…”
“How is that possible? What are you even thinking? Nothing happened last night. Stop asking, okay?” Candice interrupted, flustered.
She waved her hands dismissively and continued, “I can’t explain it clearly. Anyway, it’s all a misunderstanding. Bettina, I want to remove it. But my wrist is swollen, so it’s stuck for now. When the swelling goes down, I’ll take it off and return it to him right away.”
Bettina held her hand and said carefully, “I don’t think it can be taken off even after the swelling subsides. You’ll need professional help.”
Candice frowned. How troublesome could it be? “Do you know anyone who can help? Please take me to them,” she pleaded hopefully.
Bettina glanced at her quizzically. “What are you thinking? No one would help even if they could.”
Candice was stunned by her response and asked, “Why?”
“This could be worth ten billion. No one would risk it. They wouldn’t be able to pay for it if they broke it. Forget it. No one’s willing to help.”
Candice’s jaw dropped, and she asked in panic, “Then what should I do?”
“Talk to the one who gave it to you. Let him find a way,” Bettina said matter-of-factly. She rolled her eyes and added, “I’m sure someone would help if they didn’t have to compensate for it if it broke.”
Candice was speechless.
Suddenly, Bettina clutched her abdomen and said, “I need to go to the restroom. My stomach is aching. I need to change my pad.”
