Chapter 98
Chapter 98:
It was Raul’s voice.
“Do you know how much this will affect Mr. Lopez’s image? This is an adultery scandal—not just the usual ones we handle. Have you even read all the comments?”
Raul felt like he was going crazy. He ran his fingers through his hair and continued anxiously, “Don’t you know what will happen if his public image is ruined? Let me tell you… It would affect our company’s stock price, which will in turn impact the global market. This will naturally disrupt our latest acquisition plans and shake the entire economy of Ploville. It will have a huge impact! We need to do something!”
One of the PR staff members suggested in a low voice, “Mr. Hinks, we can clear up the rumors, but not the truth. It can only be concealed.”
“Then find a way to conceal it!” Raul shouted again.
The PR staff member trembled and almost whimpered, “It’s too late, sir. It’s already the top trending hashtag. It’s not limited to domestic networks either—foreign networks have caught wind of it. By now, anyone familiar with the internet should have seen it. Even if we remove it now, it’s useless because the news has already spread wildly overseas. Everyone is aware of it, sir.”
The staff member looked helpless. “Mr. Hinks, since they chose to release it at four o’clock in the morning, they wanted to catch us off guard—and they succeeded. If we forcefully remove the top hashtag now, it will only cause more uproar.”
“Then how do we save Mr. Lopez’s image?” Raul asked helplessly. He had run out of options.
“Well, sir… why doesn’t Mr. Lopez try to pursue her?” the staff member asked tentatively. “If he becomes her boyfriend, the public will understand. We just have to make their love story beautiful enough.”
“You forget she’s married!” Raul raised his voice again.
“But they can get divorced. Marriages end all the time now, so it won’t be a big deal. Honestly, Mr. Hinks, public opinion isn’t disadvantageous to Mr. Lopez right now. After all, he’s always been seen as the perfect man, with a clean image. If you read the comments, you’ll see the public is criticizing Candice Blake only. If we just sit by and do nothing, then—”
Candice froze outside the door.
So they were willing to let this go on as long as Milton wasn’t affected negatively.

They just had to sacrifice her, and everything would be fine. After all, they could simply claim that Milton was seduced by a tramp, right?
Candice scoffed in disbelief. No wonder he had asked her for a divorce back in court.
At that time, he was already planning how to save his reputation. He had anticipated this moment.
Candice clenched her fists, feeling her anger rise.
Milton stood by the giant window, tall and slim. He looked down at his phone to read some comments.
Immediately, his face darkened.
Every comment attacked Candice—vicious and obscene words.
He tried his best to remain calm, but he couldn’t stand it any longer.
Behind him, the PR team had already decided to stay out of the matter.
However, this solution didn’t sit well with him. He turned around, frowning, and spat out, “Shut up!”
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a familiar figure at the door.
Candice?
Milton rushed to the meeting room door and pushed it wide open.
Indeed, it was her. His heart skipped a beat with excitement. He hadn’t seen her for two days, but it felt like an eternity.
“Candice, did you come for me?”
He struggled to keep the excitement out of his voice as he asked. Though the trending news had caught him off guard and was bad, he was glad it had brought Candice to him. Definitely!
Strangely, though, Candice looked at him very coldly. If she hadn’t come, she would have never realized that he and his team planned to sacrifice her.
She felt ridiculous. She had let Bettina convince her that Milton would remove the trending hashtag if she came to him.
But she couldn’t feed his ego. Instead, she said, “I only came to terminate the contract for the personal attorney.”
In that moment, Milton felt his excitement fade. Was that really the reason she had come?
