Chapter 220
Chapter 220:
His fury was so intense that it was evident in the trembling and rippling of the liquid in the teacup.
The tension in the room was reaching an almost unbearable level.
At that moment, the waiter knocked and entered. Seeing an opportunity, Lambert stood up to help diffuse the situation. A contrite grin spread across his face as he said, “My apologies for the delay. Today’s meal service seems to be a little slow.” He hurried forward and seized Milton’s teacup. He quickly added, “Mr. Lopez, please stop drinking tea. It’s time for some wine.”
He then turned to the waiter. “May I have a bottle of red wine, please?”
Drinking alcohol wasn’t the best idea. What if things became even crazier after a few drinks?
Yet, Lambert couldn’t think of a better way to break the existing tension.
For the first time, he understood what it felt like to be helpless and hopeless.
He could only try to resolve the current situation.
Finally, Milton released his grip on the cup, and the tea inside poured out. The teacup continued to shake for a moment before finally settling.
Finally, Lambert breathed a sigh of relief, feeling as if his legs were about to give out.
The waiter swiftly cleared away the tea and began serving the dishes.
The dishes at the Hyatt Hotel were exquisite. Each person was served a portion of the expensive delicacies, including top-grade snow beef and a bowl of creamy soup.
After the starters were finished, the main course was served.
“Enjoy your meal,” the waiter said. He proceeded to open a bottle of red wine, pouring a glass for everyone before leaving the room respectfully. “Mr. Lopez, Mr. Harman, Candy, please help yourselves,” Lambert said with a smile, though it was tinged with awkwardness.
However, Milton didn’t touch his food. He simply stared at Candice meaningfully. He could sense her discomfort, the awkwardness caused by Greyson’s presence making her uneasy.
When Candice met Milton’s gaze, she saw the concern in his eyes, as though he was silently asking if she was okay.
Her pupils contracted.
She quickly lowered her head, pretending not to notice, while cutting into her steak. In reality, she was starving, having missed lunch, but the tension in the air had robbed her of her appetite. She wanted nothing more than to have a few bites and find an excuse to leave. Unfortunately, Greyson had noticed the exchange between them.
He recalled the messages between Candice and Milton, and his temper flared. She must have stayed at Milton’s house last night. She had even bathed and changed clothes. What had happened between them?
Greyson couldn’t bear the thought.
Pushing his plate toward Candice, he sulked. “Help me cut the steak. I want each piece to be the same size, just like you did for me before. Also, scoop some of my favorite dishes for me. Use the serving spoon.”
