Chapter 279

Chapter 279:
Her birthday was an even more difficult time. It reminded her that her parents were no longer with her for yet another year.
However, this year felt different somehow. Candice didn’t feel as lonely as usual, and her mood was much brighter.
Feeling tired, Candice picked up the TV remote and turned on the television.
She rarely watched TV shows, let alone binged on them. But with nothing else to do, she decided to turn it on.
To her surprise, the channel was airing a romance soap opera. Even worse, it was showing a scene not suitable for minors.
The hero and heroine were entangled, passionately kissing each other. The white sheet slipped down to their waists, and their gasps and moans echoed seductively.
Just as the scene reached its climax, Milton raised his head and saw what was playing on the TV screen.
He was completely stunned, tightly gripping the mouse.
Damn it! He had just managed to restrain himself by focusing on work.
“I’m so sorry. Let me… switch the channel right away,” Candice said, feeling embarrassed. She tried to use the remote control, but it didn’t seem to be working. She wasn’t very good at using it since she rarely watched TV.
She pressed the buttons repeatedly, but the steamy scene on the TV continued to play.
Her face flushed with embarrassment and anxiety. Finally, she found the right button to change the channel. The drama now was an ancient costume show.
On the screen, an emperor sat on the throne, looking fierce and intimidating.
At the bottom of the stairs, a woman dressed in red knelt on the floor. It was clear she was playing the queen. She cried out, “Your Majesty, what did I do wrong? I love you so much! The first time I laid eyes on you, I was captivated by your charming appearance. You gifted me a jade pendant and expressed your desire to be with me forever. I’m not jealous, but how can any woman who truly loves her husband tolerate him being with other women? I just can’t do it. Your Majesty, I love you so much that…”

The overly dramatic lines and shrill cries added to Candice’s embarrassment.
She could tell Milton was also annoyed by the scene.
Quickly, Candice switched to another channel.
This time, she found a normal program on the legal channel.
After the commercial break, the show began with a speech: “This is a legal drama that tells the story of a man who fell in love with a married woman. He did everything in his power to win her over, even resorting to crime in the end…”
As soon as she heard that, Candice was at a loss for words and immediately switched the channel again.
She stole a quick glance at Milton, but he remained focused on his computer screen, leaving her wondering what was going through his mind.
Candice let out a sigh of relief.
Damn it! These TV shows were terrible!
