She cursed under her breath. This was her own apartment, yet she still had to sneak in and out like a thief. She rubbed her temples, feeling remorse creeping in.
This was a battlefield, and she had to avoid that man at all costs. Otherwise, sooner or later, she would surrender to him.
The Sunrise Apartment was very close to the firm. It would take Candice only a couple of minutes to arrive.
She checked the time and realized she had a few minutes to spare, so she decided to stop by a nearby café for a cup of coffee.
“I’ll have a mocha with two hazelnut syrups, extra cream, hold the almond pieces, and add some chocolate sauce. Thanks!”
Candice placed her order and paid the bill.
Suddenly, her phone rang. Candice assumed it was Bettina, following up on the unlocking service. Without hesitation, she answered.
“Hello, Betty. The unlocking was completed,” she said without waiting for her friend’s greeting.
There was a brief silence on the other end before Greyson’s voice came through. “Candice, where are you living now?”
Candice was taken aback as she confirmed the caller ID. If she had known it was him, she wouldn’t have answered.
However, since she had already picked up, she felt it would be impolite to hang up.
Clearly, Greyson knew she had moved.
Candice stood beside the counter, waiting for her coffee as she spoke in a hushed tone. “Mr. Harman, please attend to your own matters. I don’t see why I should report my address to you. If you have anything to discuss, come to the law firm and speak with me.”
She added, “As for the patent and signature rights, I made myself clear that night. It’s up to you whether you want to grant me the rights or not. As for the investigation concerning the Blake Group, it’s a win-win situation for us, as you stated. Whether or not you choose to be involved is entirely up to you.”

Candice had thought carefully about her position these past few days.
She chose to rely on herself rather than seek help from others. She refused to be controlled by Greyson and was determined to make her own way.
Greyson remained silent for a moment, a rare display of patience for him. “If we want to find out the truth about the Blake Group, we need to work together. You handle the legal process, and I’ll focus on the biology aspects. We’ll have to put in a lot of time. Should we discuss this at the law firm every single time? Candice, where are you living now? I’ll come to you.” His voice on the phone sounded anxious.
Candice immediately rebuffed, “It’s more appropriate to discuss work matters at the office. If there’s nothing else, I’ll have to hang up now.”
Despite her efforts to remain polite, Greyson’s irritation surfaced, and he raised his voice. “Are you living with him? Are you with him right now?”
Candice was stunned, realizing that Greyson was referring to Milton. She had slept with him last night.
