Chapter 328
Chapter 328:
“Okay,” Candice said, nodding. As she was about to leave, she turned around and asked, “Dr. Murray, I can feel my lower abdomen swelling, and it hurts a little. I don’t know if it’s serious.”
Essie gazed at Candice and assured her, “It’s normal. You should avoid strenuous exercise.”
“Okay,” Candice replied. She hesitated a moment before adding, “Dr. Murray, I have one last question.”
Essie looked up and said, “Go ahead.”
Biting her lip, Candice said slowly, “On the day it happened, if I took some unknown drugs, would the baby be affected?”
“Unknown drugs? What do you mean specifically? Were you the only one who took the drugs? Or did the man also take them?” Essie asked, confused.
Candice hesitated a little before answering, “I don’t know what the drugs were. There might have been an aphrodisiac. It’s possible that both of us took it. Anyway, Dr. Murray, I heard that amniocentesis can be performed to check the fetus’s health. Is that true?”
“Yes, but it’s still early. You can’t do that yet,” Essie replied, dismissing the idea.
“Is there any other way?” Candice continued asking.
Suddenly, Essie’s phone rang. She glanced at it and saw it was a call from Greyson. She quickly realized he must be reminding her to be careful about her choice of words. Essie cleared her throat and said, “There aren’t any other means. Well, you can do a full examination again in two months. I can make a better judgment then.”
“Okay,” Candice agreed. She thanked the doctor and left the office.
Essie heaved a sigh of relief, feeling a bit proud that she had navigated through her mini-crisis. She walked to the compartment to report the details to Greyson but found it empty. Greyson had already left through the back door.
As soon as Candice left the hospital, she let out a sigh of relief. The doctor had assured her that everything was alright, and she completely believed her.
She thought it best to leave the professionals to do their job. After all, what mattered most was the health of the baby growing inside her.
But Candice couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. She knew that on the night she slept with Milton, her drink had been drugged. And what about Milton? Was he in a normal state? If they were both under the influence of unknown drugs, could that have affected the fetus after conception?
Candice spent hours poring over the surveillance footage from that night, and her worries only grew. That was why, when she saw blood in the morning, she didn’t hesitate to rush to East Hospital.
She couldn’t help but feel a little upset. With a heavy heart, she shook her head and accepted that there was nothing she could do for now.
The doctor had advised her to wait another two months for a comprehensive examination, and that was what she planned to do.
The rain from the morning had stopped, but the sky remained gloomy.
Candice hailed a taxi that took her to the Hope Law Firm.
