Candice shook her head, a flicker of doubt clouding her mind. “No, she actually said she wants to call it a truce with me.”
“Bah! Truce?” Bettina snorted derisively. “That snake in the grass is probably up to no good. When I arrived, I saw her talking in hushed tones with someone in the parking lot. They exchanged something, but I was too far away to tell what it was or who she was talking to.”
Candice’s brow furrowed in concern as Bettina continued, “I did some digging, and it turns out that the Harman family only got two invitations—for you and Greyson. Greyson pulled some strings and got two more for Rachel and Madilyn. That’s how they got here. I don’t like the sound of it. They could be here to cause trouble. Be cautious!”
Bettina looked a little worried.
“Don’t worry, I came prepared,” Candice placed her hand on Bettina’s shoulder and beamed.
Bettina’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. “Prepared? What’s the plan? Can I help?”
Candice just smiled enigmatically.
She glanced around and said, “You are too impatient! Let’s just say I’m playing it by ear.”
“Alright, then. When the ambassador’s wife comes out, let’s go meet her and talk up our law firm. We handle lots of international cases. It’s beneficial to befriend her.”
Bettina lifted her hand and ran it over her short hair.
“Okay,” Candice agreed, but her mind was elsewhere.
“By the way, this afternoon I went to the Royal Garden Corporation to meet with Jeffrey and sign the lease contract. And I’ve been to the office too. The design is beautiful and functional. We can just move in whenever we’re ready; there’s no preparation required.”
Bettina prodded Candice and said, “I have to thank Mr. Lopez. Will he be showing up tonight?”

Candice shook her head and said, “He will not be coming. How come you signed the contract so quickly? You were too anxious.”
“I share your desire for the firm’s growth, but given his assistance, I feel obligated to return the favor.”
“That workplace is excellent! That’s why I didn’t wait. For as long as I can remember, I have handled things promptly. Haha! You’re doing us a solid by returning the favor for our company. I’m going to let you handle that,” Bettina said bluntly.
Candice was at a loss for words.
That was expected. But she had benefited from Milton’s assistance in this manner several times. She reached out and touched her jade bracelet. Tonight, she was without her wristband. The bracelet made of jade stood out greatly.
“I’m going out to mingle, Candice. Take care,” Bettina waved her hand.
“Okay.”
