“What’s going on, Greyson?” Candice’s arm hurt. She scowled and whispered sharply.
“In the party hall, what did Madilyn make you drink? Spit it out!” Greyson placed one hand on Candice’s back and used the other to squeeze her chin. “Go to the hospital with me! Your stomach should be pumped as soon as possible.”
He had been so startled moments ago that he hadn’t processed Madilyn and Rachel’s conversation in time. Now he realized how critical it was to have Candice’s stomach pumped.
He had disregarded this crucial information and wasn’t sure whether it was already too late.
In any case, he couldn’t allow Madilyn and Rachel to continue with their malicious schemes against Candice.
“Let go of me!” Candice tried to push him off, but she couldn’t summon the energy. Her irritation was obvious. “Greyson, I told you earlier. I’m not an idiot!” Greyson’s dark eyes filled with skepticism, almost as if he were seeking confirmation.
The handsomeness of his face had faded. He asked, his voice tinged with apprehension, “You saw it coming?! Were they really that easy to see through?”
Candice scoffed. “I’m not a damn fool. I couldn’t possibly trust what Madilyn gave me. I wouldn’t even trust her if she offered me her own wine glass in exchange for mine. She must have been trying to deceive me, knowing I’d fall for her trick with the glass. I went and spat it out in the restroom.”
Greyson couldn’t help but exhale in relief when she said that.
Then, something occurred to him.
“So, you did this? You made their private conversation public?” Subconsciously, he gripped her hand tighter, a trace of anger in his expression. “Why couldn’t you just tell me? I don’t understand why you felt the need to act this way. I mean, come on…”
Suddenly, he stopped. Candice could tell that he was only concerned with his own priorities.

She looked at him coldly.
He knew the facts, yet his focus remained on maintaining his good name and that of the Harmans.
He didn’t care about what she had been through. Instead of apologizing, he blamed her!
Candice shook her head and let out a sarcastic smile.
“Seriously, Greyson, why couldn’t I just tell you? Are you pulling my leg here?”
Greyson knew he was in the wrong. As someone passed by, he quickly pulled Candice to a more secluded corner. Turning his back to the corridor, he blocked any prying eyes and placed one arm around her side.
“Candice, things are different now,” he emphasized.
The pressure from his arm sent shivers down Candice’s spine. Greyson was so intense she had never felt anything like it before. He looked grim, almost as if he wanted to devour her.
“What’s different?” Candice tried to keep her distance, turning her head away to avoid his gaze. “I was only trying to protect myself. How could I possibly know what they were going to say or do beforehand? It was all out of my control. And how would I know they’d reveal everything?”
