Chapter 395
Chapter 395:
She didn’t need to worry about what others thought.
People had to rely on themselves, after all.
The rain continued to fall, and thunder rumbled loudly in the distance.
Outside the Gold Well Hotel’s banquet hall, about forty to fifty marble steps gleamed in the night, drenched by the rain.
The trees in the distance swayed dangerously, and the rain had created a thick white mist that covered the ground.
Candice realized she had forgotten to bring an umbrella and was about to head back to the hotel to borrow one when someone called out her name from behind. “Candice?”
The voice belonged to Erica, but there was a hint of uncertainty in it.
Candice turned around and was surprised to see Erica standing there.
She looked anxious and as if she had been chasing after her.
Hearing Erica use her first name for the first time felt strange.
Until tonight, Erica had only known her as Candy, the lawyer. Milton had introduced her that way, but after tonight’s incident, it was clear that Erica had figured out her true identity.
Candice greeted her politely. “Mrs. Lopez, is there something I can help you with?”
Erica took a step closer, and Candice noticed she was unsteady on her feet, completely different from how she had been when she angrily confronted Rachel earlier.
Suddenly, Erica grabbed Candice’s arm, as if she couldn’t see clearly what was in front of her.
Her voice was hollow and dreamlike. “You, you’re Corrine Blake’s daughter, aren’t you?”
Upon hearing Erica utter her mother’s name, Candice found herself rooted to the spot.

She studied Erica’s face, etched with the weight of a painful past. The woman appeared haggard.
“Yes,” Candice responded cautiously. “Did you know my mother?”
At this revelation, Erica reeled. She trembled, barely able to remain upright. Candice was truly Corrine’s daughter.
Erica staggered, nearly toppling over.
Candice rushed in to steady her.
Concern laced her voice. “What’s wrong? Are you alright? Should I take you back to the banquet hall to rest?”
Candice furrowed her brow, puzzled by Erica’s odd reaction.
Had there been a conflict between her mother and Erica? What could provoke such a response from Erica upon learning of Candice’s lineage?
Erica desperately tried to keep her balance. Her mind was hazy. Her vision was slowly turning foggy.
In response to Candice’s inquiries, she murmured, “Oh my God! Oh my God!”
