Chapter 431

Chapter 431:
Milton nodded in agreement.
Bettina had supported him throughout the whole process, including letting Candice be his personal attorney, celebrating Candice’s birthday, and the office relocation.
“You always knew that she had divorced, right?” he asked.
“Of course. Didn’t you know? Candice is an upright and self-disciplined woman. If she hadn’t divorced, how could she have allowed you to get close to her?”
She raised her voice. “She had a miscarriage. Are you satisfied now? Do you think your Lopez family is so noble that she couldn’t marry into it? Since you don’t want her child, why did you get close to her? It’s typical of men to be driven by their desires and just want to play with women. Or perhaps you thought that she was pregnant with Greyson’s child?”
Bettina proposed another possibility. “I know for a fact that Candice has never slept with Greyson. She has never even kissed him. The baby was undoubtedly yours! You had the audacity to impregnate her, but you lacked the courage to take responsibility. I misjudged you. It’s utterly repulsive!”
“Hey, you can’t say that!” Raul objected to Bettina’s accusations. He went on, “No one could have foreseen such a thing happening. He stayed up all night reviewing the surveillance footage. How could you make such claims?”
“Oh, he stayed up all night watching the surveillance footage, so I don’t have to,” Bettina replied.
Taking a sigh, she went on, “Then tell me! What was the result? Can you prove that your mother didn’t push Candy down the stairs?” Bettina sneered.
Milton remained silent, unable to prove anything.
“Can’t you answer my question? Did you find anything? It’s quite amusing,” Bettina continued to sneer. “So, it was really your mother who did it. I never imagined that.”
“Who said that?” Raul interjected. “Although no evidence was found that anyone else was present, there’s no footage of his mother pushing Candice down the stairs. It can’t be directly proven that it was his mother who did it! She’s not that kind of person.”

Seeing that Milton didn’t say anything, Raul grew anxious.
“Mr. Hinks, are you really going to discuss the evidence with a lawyer?” Bettina’s response was swift and cutting. “Stay out of this,” she snapped. “I don’t need you to take responsibility for me. But no one can harm Candy! Get out of my way!” She pushed Raul away discontentedly.
“I…” Raul was left speechless by her words. He knew he had done something wrong the night before and lacked the courage to argue with her.
Defeated, he stepped aside as Bettina stretched out her arms protectively in front of Milton.
“Leave,” she ordered. “She doesn’t want to see you. Don’t disturb her. Let her rest in peace. She needs a quiet place. As long as I am here, you won’t be able to see her.”
As Milton gazed at Candice’s ward, his heart ached with a mixture of guilt and despair. Even if he wanted to see her, he knew that doing so would not help prove his mother’s innocence or assure Candice that justice would be served. All he would do is upset her.
