“You brat!” Hutton’s breath was nearly snatched away, and his eyes rolled back in his head, leaving him on the brink of fainting. Luckily, the attentive servants of the Harman family, not too far behind, hurried over and supported Hutton, skillfully pressing certain spots on the old man’s body with their thumbs to prevent him from losing consciousness.
The atmosphere surrounding them had completely disintegrated, leaving behind a heavy silence.
With a stern expression, Greyson commanded the servants, “Take my grandfather back and let him rest.”
Affirming their understanding, the servants promptly escorted Hutton away.
Hutton, fixating his gaze on Candice, couldn’t resist the urge to point a finger of blame at Greyson. “You’d better discipline her. You spoil her too much! She’s completely ungrateful. The Harman family showed her kindness, and this is how she repays us? She truly infuriates me!”
Hutton’s voice gradually faded into the distance as the Harman family’s servants guided him to a room behind the grand hall, where he could rest and recover from the ordeal.
Greyson and Candice were left alone outside the grand hall.
Greyson tried to reason with her, his tone gentle. “Candice, please understand that Grandpa is old and not thinking clearly. It’s best not to argue with him.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper. Handing it to Candice, he said earnestly, “I asked Rachel to write down the details of her loan from your mother. She has signed it, and I want you to keep it. It may not be enough to convict Rachel now, but it could be useful in the future.”
Without looking at the paper, Candice took it from Greyson’s outstretched hand and put it away. She turned to leave.
Greyson instinctively grabbed her arm, stopping her. “Where are you going?”
Candice replied sharply, “That’s none of your concern.”
Greyson didn’t give up. “You’ve been gone for days. I’m worried about you. Come back with me, and I’ll take care of you.”
Candice faced him with a sneer. “Mr. Harman, we’re no longer in a relationship. There’s one thing I need to settle with you.”
“What is it?” Greyson asked, his brow furrowed with concern.
Candice spoke coldly. “You said that if I did something disgraceful and brought shame to the Harman family, the patent would belong to the company, and I wouldn’t receive a penny. But I also said that if I could prove I was set up, the patent would be returned to me.”
She paused, watching Greyson’s expression darken.
“Mr. Harman, shouldn’t you keep your promise? I proved I was set up on our wedding night. Please return the patent rights for the new drug to me.”
Greyson’s body stiffened as he recalled the things he had said in the past.
Back then, he was certain Candice was a cruel woman. It never occurred to him that she had been framed, or that she was the one who saved him in Overshow ten years ago.
“Candice, I never wanted to take away the patent and authorship rights,” Greyson said quickly, looking at her sincerely. “It’s not about keeping a promise. I planned to return them to you from the start. You deserve them. In fact, I’m applying for the patent under your mother’s and your names.”
