Pondering for a while, she couldn’t decide whether to reveal the truth to him or not. The reason for her dilemma was Greyson’s enormous power and influence.
Despite the mysterious man’s wealth and status, Greyson reigned as the most influential figure in the medical field. She feared that speaking out might result in her being reported to the Medical Association and losing her medical practice. Nonetheless, her conscience tormented her, as she had never engaged in such deceitful acts before.
Just as she was contemplating, her cell phone abruptly rang.
Startled, she leapt off the sofa, thinking it might be a call from Greyson.
Glancing downward, she noticed an unfamiliar yet vaguely recognizable number.
At first, she couldn’t identify the caller. But when she answered, she realized it was the same man who had inquired about Candice’s pregnancy the other night. He asked whether she had made errors in determining Candice’s gestational weeks, causing Essie’s heart to race with terror. The phone nearly slipped from her trembling hand.
In a panic, she pretended she couldn’t recall the details clearly and insisted on reviewing the hospital records. She hastily ended the call.
From that moment, she became reluctant to answer any further calls. Taking sick leave from the hospital, she sought refuge in the seclusion of her home.
As time passed, her suffering intensified until she reached her breaking point.
The incessant ringing of the phone filled Essie with fear. She lacked the courage to answer, dreading the consequences from either party involved.
Suddenly, she turned off her phone, removed the SIM card, and threw it down the toilet.
As the whirlpool of water swallowed the SIM card, she crumpled to the floor. Back then, overwhelmed by Greyson’s tempting offer, her judgment had been clouded, leading to a grave mistake. Now, she deeply regretted it.
“Sorry, the number you dialed cannot be reached at the moment.”

Essie had promised to review the B-ultrasound records when she first answered the phone, but since then she had become unreachable. Despite his numerous attempts, she either didn’t answer or had turned off her phone. She seemed completely untraceable.
Shouldn’t she have faced her mistake with courage, even if she had miscalculated Candice’s pregnancy weeks?

At the West Hill Cafe, Greyson entered the private room and saw Essie sitting in the corner, a suitcase beside her.
Holding her passport in hand, she looked around anxiously. When she saw Greyson, she sighed in relief and stood up to greet him.
