The director wiped sweat from his brow, trying to clarify. “It truly wasn’t Dr. Murray’s fault. I reviewed the file myself. Candice underwent a B-ultrasound, and the image was sent to the doctor’s computer via the system. A staff member’s negligence caused another patient’s ultrasound image to be misattributed to Candice and sent to Dr. Murray. That’s why Essie made an incorrect judgment.” The director’s voice wavered. He had never expected that such a minor error would attract the attention of Ploville’s wealthiest man, Mr. Lopez.
“My apologies, Mr. Lopez. The staff member responsible has been dismissed. We deeply regret any misunderstanding this has caused you. Is there anything we can do to make amends?” The director held his breath, waiting for Milton’s response.
Milton’s mind churned as he mulled over the information. There was no evidence, and everything seemed legitimate.
Yet the more plausible it appeared, the more doubts crept into his mind.
“Tell me, are you close to Greyson?” Milton asked abruptly, finding the situation peculiar.
“Mr. Harman of Harmony Hospital?” The director’s eyes flickered. “Frankly, we’re competitors. Greyson’s influence in the medical field is such that we must tread carefully. He’s expanded Harmony Hospital, poaching much of our business and making things difficult for us.”
“So, you have no friendly rapport with Greyson?” Milton sought clarification.
“Absolutely not. Mr. Harman is cold and unsociable. We wouldn’t dare pursue any connections with him,” the director replied, a hint of envy in his tone.
Milton deduced the competition between the two hospitals was indeed real. Had Greyson not intervened in this matter? “And what about Essie? Does she have any ties with Greyson?” Milton probed further.
“Hardly. Essie was just an obstetrician. How could she know someone as influential as Greyson? It’s utterly implausible.” The director dismissed the idea with a shake of his head.
Milton frowned. Was the misjudgment of Candice’s gestational age truly an error from the archives department?

“Is it possible to locate Candice’s original B-ultrasound image? I’d like a copy,” Milton requested.
The director shook his head regretfully. “I’m sorry, but the original image was overwritten by the incorrect B-ultrasound. That mishap likely caused the loss of the original. I had someone search thoroughly after you mentioned it, but to no avail. Mr. Lopez, we accept responsibility for this error.”
He actually thought the mistake wasn’t monumental. It could have been corrected during Candice’s next B-ultrasound. However, given her miscarriage, the situation was now difficult to explain.
Milton didn’t get the answers he sought.
With a furrowed brow, he rose from his seat. “Very well, I’ll take my leave. Should any new information surface, inform me promptly.”
“Mr. Lopez, allow me to escort you out,” the director offered respectfully.
Milton waved off the offer, uninterested in the director’s obsequiousness.
Once outside the hospital, he remained perplexed.
