Candice knew she had to be responsible since she had been paid for her services.
At such close proximity, she could feel the weight of his oppressive aura. The strong pressure made her turn her head to avoid his sharp gaze.
Milton released her hand and picked up the files, carefully examining them.
“One is the additional evidence. What’s the other?” he asked.
“The other is the GreatTechnologies compensation case you entrusted to me. This is the amount of compensation you should apply for in court against the other party and the amount of frozen assets before the prosecution application. Are you satisfied with it?” Candice explained.
Milton glanced at it and replied coldly, “I’m not satisfied. The compensation amount is too low. It’s not enough to cover my losses. Is this the best you can do?”
Candice gasped, knowing he was deliberately making things difficult. She had already applied for the upper limit and tried her best to consider his company’s interests.
Milton leaned back gracefully and threw the file on the table. “Go back and redo it. Show me a better plan until I’m satisfied,” he said firmly.
“I understand. I’ll go back and redo it,” Candice said, taking the other file. “Mr. Lopez, this additional evidence file must be signed today. I have to submit it to the court tomorrow morning.”
Milton looked at the blank signature. His eyes flicked around as he contemplated.
He didn’t sign but instead twirled the pen between his fingertips. Candice didn’t know what he was thinking, but it felt like silent torture.
Suddenly, he stopped spinning the pen and looked up at Candice. “Have you had lunch?” he asked.
Candice paused, wondering why he was asking about lunch.
She shook her head and replied, “No, I’ll go back to the law firm for lunch after you sign it.”
Milton shot her an indifferent glance before picking up the phone from the desk and calling the secretary station.

“Bring in lunch now. For two people.” He promptly hung up.
Looking up, he caught Candice’s eye. “Join me for lunch. I’ll sign it afterwards.”
Candice’s frown conveyed her answer. “No thanks. I’m in a hurry.”
Milton sneered. “Is this how you treat a big client? You must do whatever I ask. Refusal is not an option.”
Candice was rendered speechless.
Milton’s pen hit the desk with a thud, clearly showing he had no intention of signing the file.
Candice glanced at her watch, feeling helpless. She needed that signature today, but Milton was not cooperating. She turned and walked toward the sofa, then sat down.
Candice pulled out the file for the GreatTechnologies compensation case and began reading it meticulously. As she reviewed the pages, memories from her time on leave flooded her mind. Although most of the work had been done by her assistant lawyer, Candice had carefully reviewed the details. However, she hadn’t given the GreatTechnologies case the attention it deserved, thinking it was too simple and straightforward.
