Chapter 495
Chapter 495:
She heard every word of their conversation.
It turned out Erica had personally brought Sigrid here today. No doubt, they had an unusual relationship.
Candice frowned. She wasn’t bothered that Erica wanted Sigrid to be her daughter-in-law. She was also unbothered by the women’s insults.
She didn’t care what others said behind her back.
She was more concerned about the rumors saying that Erica was kind and amiable.
After all, she had met and talked with her before. The rumors were undoubtedly true.
Erica had always treated Candice with sincerity and warmth, without any hint of arrogance.
Such inner cultivation and magnanimity were impossible to hide, and it was unlikely that people’s opinions would change easily.
One incident that particularly stood out in Candice’s mind happened at the ambassador’s wife’s birthday party, where Erica had stood up for her against Rachel and Madilyn’s belittling remarks. Erica’s domineering attitude had embarrassed Rachel. She had taught Madilyn a lesson and even threatened to drive them out of the upper class.
Unbeknownst to Erica, Candice had witnessed this scene. It left a deep impression on her, for which she remained grateful.
She couldn’t accept the fact that Erica, who had shown such kindness, would push her down the stairs.
It didn’t make sense.
Candice had always had doubts about the whole thing. She didn’t want to hold Erica accountable. In fact, when she had met Erica near the gate of her villa, what Erica said only confirmed Candice’s suspicions.
“Candice, do you believe I pushed you down the stairs?” Erica asked.

“It doesn’t matter. You’re free to misunderstand me. I have no desire to defend myself.”
“All I’ll say is that a clean hand needs no washing. But take it as true if you think I did it. I’m done here.”
Erica’s words spoke volumes about her clear conscience and integrity.
As a lawyer, Candice knew there had to be a logical explanation for any irrational situation.
After scrutinizing the surveillance footage, Candice concluded that there was no third person present during the incident. But she also couldn’t find any footage showing Erica pushing her down the stairs.
Lost in thought, Candice stood on the glass walkway connecting the two buildings.
She decided to investigate the matter further and get to the bottom of the truth—not just for herself, but for Erica and her deceased child as well.
When Candice returned to Hope Law Firm, the partners’ meeting was already in progress.
