As Bettina watched her go, a feeling crept over her that Milton had ulterior motives for requesting Candice’s presence every noon. What kind of materials did Candice have to review in his office at lunchtime?
Humph.
Candice walked through the aerial walkway, her steps light as air, heading toward Milton’s office.
The Hope Law Firm’s relocation to the Royal Garden Corporation’s affiliated building had made her daily commute convenient. Otherwise, she couldn’t afford the back-and-forth journey every day.
As she approached the CEO’s secretaries’ station, she noticed a group of secretaries whispering. Their hushed tones abruptly stopped as soon as they saw Candice. They quickly resumed their work, silently retreating to their seats.
Candice gave them an indifferent glance. She couldn’t help but notice the extravagance of having so many secretaries at one’s disposal. There were about a dozen of them. Candice wondered what else they could possibly do all day besides gossip.
Blair, the secretaries’ boss and Milton’s chief secretary, greeted Candice. “Nice to see you, Miss Blake. Mr. Lopez has an appointment this afternoon. Before he left, he asked me to give you this address. Please go there. He has a document that needs your signature.”
Blair handed Candice a note with the address on it. It was a high-end Western-style restaurant just across the road.
Candice had heard this restaurant was one of the world’s top Michelin-starred places. Known for its unique and innovative dishes, it was notoriously difficult to book a table.
Why would Milton ask her to go there? What document needed signing? What was so urgent? This was obviously an excuse. Was he going to treat her to lunch at this fancy restaurant?
“Okay, I’ll leave now.” Candice nodded to Blair, pocketing the note.

As she left the CEO’s secretaries’ station, Candice took the exclusive elevator to the first floor. She walked out of the Royal Garden Corporation and headed toward the restaurant.
The midday sun shone brightly, illuminating the magnificent Royal Garden Corporation behind her. The blue sky was dotted with white clouds, resembling rolling waves on the sea.
Oddly, Candice was in a good mood.
Even the unexpected run-in with Greyson last night hadn’t left her feeling bad.
Candice arrived at the restaurant and checked the note again. Room A105 was where she was supposed to go. Since the restaurant was on the first floor, she didn’t need to take the elevator.
Stepping inside, Candice was struck by the stunning decoration, which exuded a rich European style. Carvings and abstract oil paintings adorned the walls, and every cabinet was arranged with meticulous attention to detail, as if they were works of art.
A waiter led Candice to the private room, walking toward a grand golden door with intricate carvings at the end of the corridor.
