Chapter 519
Chapter 519:
“This is it, miss,” the waiter said respectfully before leaving.
Candice subconsciously smoothed her long hair and took a deep breath before pushing the door open. What she saw inside left her completely stunned.
It was nothing like she had expected.
The room featured a floor-to-ceiling window that revealed an elegant garden outside, lush with greenery and colorful flowers in full bloom.
A magnificent rosewood table was placed beside the window, creating the illusion of dining in a romantic garden.
A man and a woman were seated at opposite ends of the long table.
The man looked handsome and elegant, while the woman exuded an air of sophistication and charm.
It was Milton and Sigrid.
Candice stood frozen at the door, her mind going blank.
The appointment Blair mentioned was not for her but for Milton and Sigrid. The two were basking in the warm sunshine, enjoying their fancy lunch and the beautiful scenery.
It turned out Milton had not asked her out for lunch.
She had been mistaken.
He had merely asked her to run an errand. That was all.
Milton looked up and spotted Candice standing at the door.
He had been waiting for what felt like an eternity, growing increasingly restless. Meanwhile, Sigrid reminisced about their campus days, chatting about alumni who had become top figures in investment banks, key players in international organizations, research prize winners, and successful couples whose companies ranked among the world’s top 50. Despite all this, Milton remained uninterested.
As the top figure in the business world, he cared little about others’ achievements.
He glanced at his watch from time to time. Eventually, Candice arrived.

Seeing her at the door, he straightened in his seat, leaned back, and said sternly, “Come in. You’re late.”
Candice took a deep breath and composed herself before walking over expressionlessly.
“Sorry. I had to finalize the handover of some cases this morning, which delayed me. Mr. Lopez, do you have a document that requires my signature?” she asked, glancing briefly at Sigrid and nodding slightly.
Compared to before, Sigrid seemed more mature and calm today. She looked elegant and capable, dressed in black and white. Her delicate makeup gave her a commanding charm.
In contrast, Candice wore a casual light camel dress with no makeup.
Sitting upright at the table, Sigrid smiled smugly, feeling triumphant.
After all, Candice’s status could not compare to hers. As a lawyer, Candice was just a worker. Being a lady from a noble family, Sigrid was sure Milton would treat her differently.
