Chapter 597
Chapter 597:
“Yes,” Candice confirmed. “If you drive as fast as possible, how soon can we arrive?”
The taxi driver entered the address into his navigation system. After a moment, the system displayed the distance and estimated time of arrival.
“Miss, it’s rush hour, so it will take about an hour, no matter how fast we go,” the taxi driver explained. “But according to the navigation, the resort hasn’t opened yet. Where will you stay once we get there?”
“I’ll stay for about an hour and then return. Can you wait for me?” Candice asked.
The taxi driver shook his head and said, “Sorry, but I have to end my shift at six o’clock. I can only drop you off there. You’ll have to call for another taxi to come back. It’s difficult to find a taxi in the mountains at night, and it’s unsafe for you to go down alone. You should think it over. The reception for your phone in the mountains is poor, so don’t get stranded.”
When Candice arrived at the resort, it was already five o’clock. If everything went smoothly, she would leave at six o’clock, just before it got completely dark. Though it was risky, she made up her mind to go.
She had to be fast.
Time was running out.
Wenkin, a coastal city, boasted a remarkable landmark called Coving Mountain. Rising majestically by the sea, this mountain stood tall, a relic of ancient earth movements, soaring over a thousand meters above ground.
Candice had done her research and discovered that Warren Building Materials had established a resort on this very spot. However, despite its potential, the resort remained closed to the public. In fact, it had become a failed venture.
Warren Building Materials had no experience in the resort market, and this project’s failure would undoubtedly impact the company’s operations. The stability of their capital chain and cash flow were at risk.
Seated in the taxi, Candice diligently analyzed Warren Building Materials’ situation.
She knew that if she could uncover some leads within the resort and successfully overcome the lawyer team hired by Corless in the upcoming court trial, the resulting butterfly effect would be immense.

If Warren Building Materials’ capital chain broke, the company would crumble before long.
The driver proceeded along the twisting mountain road at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour. Despite his efforts, they arrived at the resort twenty minutes later than anticipated. The clock read five twenty as they pulled up.
“Miss, we’ve arrived,” the driver announced, coming to a halt. “I must return to hand over my shift. You can call another taxi to return later.”
Candice stepped out of the taxi, retrieving cash from her bag and handing it to the driver.
“Thank you,” the driver expressed his gratitude before driving off, leaving Candice standing before the resort.
Candice turned around and gazed at the resort.
The resort had been built, and the green plants had been maintained regularly. However, devoid of visitors, it wore a melancholic air.
