Chapter 608
Chapter 608:
Milton’s irises constricted. Weird, what was up with her today? He hadn’t settled accounts with her yet, but she was still avoiding him! “What do you mean by that?” His tone wasn’t soft anymore at that moment. Candice didn’t answer.
“Why did you leave the airport alone after alighting the plane? I still need a damn answer!” Milton asked.
“I didn’t have a reason!” Candice stoked the fire with a branch, her mind wandering.
That infuriated Milton. “You had no reason?! Okay, tell me! When you knew you were in danger, why did you come to me for help? Wow, Candice, you truly stand out! You would have perished today if I hadn’t predicted that you would visit the resort. An explanation is the least you can give me!”
Candice’s anger flared up suddenly as she remembered his questionable connection with Sigrid.
“You shouldn’t be concerned about me. Whether or not I am alive is wholly my business! It has nothing to do with you. After all, we’re simply colleagues now! You should worry about Sigrid more, you know!”
Stunned, Milton stared at her in disbelief.
“It’s none of my business whether you live or die?!” He had just had enough!
He looked angry, clenched his fists, and crunched his fingers.
Candice knew he was angry once again.
She averted her gaze and dared not look at him.
The flame warmed them up, but there was no warmth between them.
Milton seethed with anger, consumed by worry for Candice.
Witnessing her misery at the hands of Corless had him furious, driving him dangerously close to ending Corless’ life. But in the end, she declared that her existence and her very death had nothing to do with him. She asked him to leave her alone.
His rage had clouded his thoughts, rendering him incapable of clear thinking. Moments ago, she had mentioned Sigrid, it seemed. What relevance did Sigrid hold in this situation? He didn’t ponder the matter too deeply.
Fresh updates now on
Candice, however, realized she had crossed a line. She had gone too far.
Yet, what about Milton? He was entangled in relationships with two women simultaneously. Wasn’t he in the wrong?
She refused to provide further explanations, sitting in silence before the crackling fire, her arms wrapped around her knees, her lips sealed shut.
Milton’s handsome face grew shadowed, his features contorted with emotion.
Time crept by slowly, and darkness enshrouded the night, obscuring the surroundings from view.
The night in the mountains possessed an ethereal beauty, accentuated by a profound stillness. The moon’s radiance bathed everything in a crystalline glow, while stars shimmered above. A chill wind whistled through, carrying with it the fragrance of the night. The surroundings resembled a dream, an otherworldly realm.
The bonfire continued to burn, its flames dancing.
