Chapter 618
Chapter 618:
Candice couldn’t help covering her lips with her hand. She was aware of Corless’ depravity, but she hadn’t fathomed the depth of it.
“Unbelievable! This secret room is brimming with incriminating proof. With this, Corless is headed straight to prison!” Candice exclaimed.
Milton was seething. If he hadn’t made it on time yesterday and Corless had gotten hold of Candice, he couldn’t even begin to fathom the consequences.
In a quick motion, he placed his hands over Candice’s eyes and said, “Keep your gaze away from them. You shouldn’t have to see these. I’ll arrange for someone to collect them and transport them back to Ploville.”
With that, he pulled her out of the secret room with firm determination. He didn’t remove his hands from her eyes until they were safely outside.
Candice gazed at Milton, mute and incredulous. His assertiveness was overwhelming. She was not a little girl. Why couldn’t she view these images? She hadn’t had the chance to thoroughly inspect for other potential evidence, even though what she had already seen was substantial.
“I had a hunch there’d be proof here. Lucky I decided to come and, at last, found the evidence.” A smug smile crossed Candice’s face.
But Milton’s anger surged. He scolded, “You… You were nearly raped by that monster Corless… The risk was too high. How could you have the audacity to shake me off yesterday? How could you dare to come here alone? Didn’t you realize the danger? What would you have done if I hadn’t shown up in time?”
Ever since yesterday, he had reprimanded her multiple times. She retorted, with a pout, “But you did show up in time. I knew you would come. Enough with the sermon already.”
Milton found himself at a loss for words.
Her affronted expression and tone seemed almost flirtatious, and it inexplicably defused his anger. Not a single sentence of criticism aimed at her could be recalled by him.
At last, he could only inquire, “What made you so certain that evidence must exist here? How could you be sure Corless didn’t destroy it? When the authorities are investigating, any reasonable person would dispose of the evidence immediately.”

Candice responded with a confident, calm smile. “It’s crucial to understand that Corless is far from being an ordinary individual. I’ve studied some criminal psychology. As I delved deeper into his case, I discovered a string of offenses he’s committed over the past decade. Such offenders often exhibit certain peculiarities and exude immense self-confidence. Ordinary excitement isn’t enough for them, so they document their deeds in some way, allowing them to indefinitely augment and prolong their twisted gratification. So, even if the authorities are investigating, Corless wouldn’t want to destroy the evidence. He probably visited here just to ensure these photographs were intact. These pictures are his greatest source of pleasure. So, I was positive he must have concealed something somewhere. And the likeliest location is right here. Things unfolded just as I had anticipated.”
Milton glanced at Candice, marveling at her intelligence. In that moment, her stunning profile seemed to glow, radiant and precious like a pearl.
At times she was brilliant, at other times adorable, and occasionally vulnerable and heartbreaking. Every aspect of her was alluring.
