Chapter 629
Chapter 629:
Then, effortlessly, he lifted her, cradling her in his arms.
Blushing, Candice pleaded, “Please don’t do that.”
He teased playfully, “Don’t do what? I couldn’t possibly guess what you’re hinting at, huh?”
Candice felt a mix of embarrassment, annoyance, and shyness, unable to shake him off.
“Who was it that held me tightly and exclaimed so passionately last night?” he teased, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
She quickly covered his lips and said, “Don’t talk nonsense.”
There’s no such thing. I don’t remember anything.
Milton laughed, feeling happier than ever.
The private jet landed at Milton’s exclusive airport. Jarrod had been tasked with an early drive to the airport to pick up Milton.
As Milton and Candice descended from the plane, Jarrod chauffeured them to the Royal Garden Corporation. Candice exited the car at the connected building, ready to return to the Hope Law Firm.
Milton, quiet as ever, observed Candice’s departure before requesting Jarrod to drive towards the company. He had hastily left the previous day and had pending matters in his office.
Candice took the elevator to the Hope Law Firm. Stepping onto the floor, she spotted Bettina aimlessly roaming near the reception desk. Upon catching sight of Candice, Bettina promptly pulled her aside and asked, “I heard from your assistant that you had a trip to Wenkin. You came back so soon?” As Corless’ case grew increasingly serious and its impact spread, word of it permeated throughout the entire law firm, leaving no one unaware.
Bettina, too, had been closely monitoring this case.
“Indeed. I just flew back,” Candice responded, intentionally omitting the fact that Milton had been with her.
“What have you discovered? Your assistant mentioned that the tide seems to be turning against us. Is the case proving to be a tough nut to crack? Can I be of any assistance?” Bettina asked, concern lacing her voice.
“I have procured evidence. But let’s not discuss this right now. It’s best kept under wraps,” Candice advised Bettina, patting her reassuringly on the shoulder.
Bettina scoffed, rolling her eyes. “Just showing concern here.” Right then, the assistant lawyer approached. Spotting Candice, she nervously inquired, “Candy, did you uncover any evidence in Wenkin? The opposition is hell-bent on pleading not guilty. It’s giving me jitters.”
When Bettina heard this, her eyes widened in disbelief. “What! Pleading not guilty? There’s definitely a case of intentional harm here at the very least.”
Candice smirked. “The defense attorneys are really desperate. They’ve tampered with the medical reports. Once this case is over, I’m taking it to the bar association. They should lose their licenses. We’ll get rid of the scum in the lawyer industry.”
Bettina mulled over this, then suggested, “If the medical reports are faked, you could involve Greyson. I bet he could handle it. If it’s awkward, I can talk to him. The case is important after all.”
