Chapter 654
Chapter 654:
Sadly, Candice was not in the mood to revel in the beauty around her. As soon as the car’s lights blinked, she rushed out of the villa and into the Bentley’s passenger seat.
She quickly stashed the court documents at her feet and secured her seatbelt within a matter of seconds. Her practice of preparing the next day’s materials the previous night had saved her. If not, she wouldn’t have been able to manage this morning. Meanwhile, Milton climbed into the driver’s seat, started the vehicle, and hit the gas. The Bentley sped away from the scenic villa.
Once they were on the open road, Milton passed a bag to Candice. “We’ve got time. Eat something.”
“Okay.” She accepted the bag and peeked inside. There was a sandwich and a container of chocolate milk.
“You prepared this sandwich this morning?” she inquired, baffled by Milton’s efficiency. He managed to get ready, change clothes, and even prepare the sandwich in a surprisingly short span of time. Usually, he took considerable time to select and coordinate his outfits.
“And what about your breakfast?” she questioned further.
Milton, indicating a right turn, stopped in the lane. He glanced at her and answered, “Yes. I made a simple sandwich. The court session is going to be a long one today, so you need to eat something. As for me, I’ll grab something back at my office after I drop you off at the court.”
Candice dipped her head, biting into her meal. “The legal proceedings are set to continue till dusk. We’ve got numerous breaks scheduled. You’re not obliged to hang around. We’ve got a takeout lunch sorted. Quite a few of the firm’s staff and trainees will be in the audience today.”
Milton’s eyes darted towards her. This was his first encounter with her in an oversized lawyer’s gown. She didn’t come across as stern but rather adorable. With her cheeks filled with food, she resembled a comical little penguin. An involuntary chuckle escaped his lips.
Candice had just managed to swallow her last mouthful when his laughter hit her ears, nearly causing her to choke. Hastily, she gulped down her chocolate milk. Wearing a disgruntled face, she questioned, “What are you laughing at? Do I look like a clown to you? It’s your fault I had to rush this morning. I’ve never been tardy for a court hearing in my entire career!”

Milton coughed lightly before replying, “You won’t be late. We’re already here.”
As he turned the corner, the Bentley pulled up in front of the courthouse. He applied the brakes and moved the car to the side.
A wave of relief washed over Candice. She glanced at her watch, realizing they still had a solid ten minutes to spare. Milton exhibited exceptional proficiency in driving at high speeds, impressing her with his skill. However, she couldn’t help but notice that he had disregarded at least three red lights during their journey, raising concerns of potential speeding tickets. However, there was no time to ponder over that now. She hastily exited the car, declaring, “I need to go. Bye.”
After uttering her goodbyes, she grabbed her files and started briskly up the steps.
Milton stepped out of the Bentley and raced after her. He caught up with her on the steps, stopping her with a firm hand. “Hold on a second.”
“What is it?” Candice turned around, her brows furrowed in irritation as she said, “I’m really in a hurry.”
