Chapter 690
Chapter 690:
“I didn’t… I…” Candice faltered, unsure of what to say. No matter how she responded, this man would misunderstand her intentions. “I’m heading to work at the law firm since it’s almost noon!”
“The case is finished. You can rest at home for two days. Furthermore, I overexerted myself last night. Are you sure you have no trouble walking?” he said.
Candice wished she could physically harm him through the screen. How could he casually bring it up again without any remorse?
In truth, she had no plans to go out today, and he had seen through her facade. She had to change the subject. “A few days ago, I asked you if anyone wanted to harm you or destroy the Lopez family. Please keep that in mind and be more vigilant of your surroundings,” she urged.
“So, are you concerned about me?” Milton asked once more.
Candice was left speechless. His perspective was completely different from hers.
Suddenly, Milton responded, “There is someone. And you also know him, Bart.”
Candice’s eyes widened, her expression shifting to one of seriousness. Her suspicions, it seemed, had also been pointing towards Bart. The first thing that had triggered her doubts was the scent of a perfume she had recognized from Bart, the same one she had picked up at her wedding ceremony. Amid the socializing, she had felt her head spinning and decided to seek out Greyson upstairs. In the hallway, she bumped into a man. The unmistakable perfume wafted off him. But as a bride, she was too self-conscious to meet the gaze of the man before her. Hastily mumbling an apology, she darted into the elevator. That man had been none other than Bart.
A man who she had no previous connection with, yet mysteriously appeared at her wedding.
Even if there were ties between Bart and Bettina, it seemed illogical given Bettina’s absence on the wedding day.
Her second suspicion stemmed from the stalking horse bid she had recognized. There was undoubtedly a mole from the Royal Garden Corporation involved, but the identity remained a mystery to her. After a moment of contemplation, Candice asked, “Bart has some connection to your family, hasn’t he? Why would he oppose you?”

Milton’s face froze, his voice cool as he responded, “The reasons are complex. Just leave it be. As you may not be aware, Bart made an appearance at the ambassador’s wife’s birthday party, despite not being included on the list of invited guests. These social events shouldn’t have involved him.”
After a pause, he went on. “He returned to Ploville and, with the backing of a few directors, was named the group’s vice president. Bart has a knack for concealing his actions and intentions. It is advised that you refrain from getting involved in such matters and maintain your distance from him. I will deal with this. I’ve got a tail on him. Is that clear?”
“Understood,” Candice murmured, her mind spinning.
Wait, what? Bart had also attended the ambassador’s wife’s birthday party? She had failed to notice him, nor had she spotted Bettina. By the time she arrived, Bettina had already left. Was Bart there to meet Bettina? Or did he have other motives?
