Chapter 693
Chapter 693:
She swiftly rushed towards the sofa, gathering not only her own garments but also those belonging to Milton, including his bathrobe and so on, clutching the collected items close to her chest.
With purpose, she proceeded to the bathroom, dumping everything into the laundry basket. And she hung Milton’s suit in the closet of the outer room.
Returning to the sofa, she discovered a few remnants of silk stockings, torn into tatters. Biting her lower lip, a blush painted her cheeks as she swiftly concealed the socks within her pocket.
She straightened the cushions and folded the blanket with meticulous care.
She greeted Erica respectfully, “Mrs. Lopez, please have a seat.” Erica accepted the invitation and settled herself on the sofa.
“I’m going to get you a cup of coffee,” Candice offered.
Immediately, Candice dashed into the kitchen.
On the stove sat a kettle filled with water. She grabbed it hastily and took a few gulps.
The water soothed her parched throat and reduced the heat rising within her. A wave of humiliation washed over her.
Ever since the incident when she pulled off her scarf, exposing the marks, Erica had made it explicitly clear that Candice should keep her distance from Milton.
She had even promised she would.
However, before long, Erica had caught her red-handed once again.
Her thoughts were a mess. She reached for the finest coffee they had, brewed it carefully, and then carried it with caution to the living room, placing it on the coffee table.
“Mrs. Lopez, I’ve made you some coffee.”
Pointing to the chair directly across from her, Erica calmly stated, “Make yourself comfortable. I’m here to say something. No need to be on edge.”

Candice awkwardly took a seat.
“I’m aware that he’s been living here.”
“Oh, he went on a business trip to Denm. When he returns, he’ll relocate. Alternatively, you could have someone collect his belongings now,” Candice said, flustered.
With a smile, Erica retorted, “It’s not my place to decide for him. Moreover, I’m not here about your living arrangements.”
“I…” Candice started to argue that it wasn’t exactly cohabitation, but she fell silent. Even she wasn’t persuaded by her own argument.
“There’s no need for embarrassment. I know my son has put you under considerable pressure. I know my son all too well,” Erica said frankly.
Candice felt her cheeks flush upon hearing Erica’s words. She bit her lower lip hard enough to drain it of color but remained silent.
Was it a kind of coercion? After all, she hadn’t put up much of a fight.
Candice’s cheeks alternated between shades of red and pale, a sight that made Erica decide not to press her any further.
