Bettina, in her candid style, poked her tongue out and voiced, “Correct. You’re aware I never beat around the bush. There’s no need to drag it out any longer.” Candice found herself speechless.
There was a pause, and then Candice said, “Yet, you and Raul make a good pair. His temperament is pleasing. He strikes me as a decent fellow.”
As she spoke, a tinge of unease fluttered within her. She found her thoughts straying to Erica, eventually concluding that she wasn’t quite the ideal fit for the esteemed Lopez family. It was this belief that drove Erica to express her wish for her to become a goddaughter to her. She harbored no resentment towards Erica, merely a sense of discontent.
Bettina’s gaze deepened, and she urged Candice out of the room. She stated, “Oh, please don’t concern yourself with me. Carry on with your own affairs.”
Bettina guided Candice toward the exit. She leaned against the door handle and retorted, “Hold your horses. I’m not done yet.”
“What seems to be the problem?” Bettina asked.
“I’ve stumbled upon an issue. The surveillance footage from my wedding night and the ambassador’s wife’s birthday bash, they’re both missing crucial segments. A twenty-second slice at the birthday party venue’s entrance is gone. A similar thing happened with my wedding venue’s footage. Therefore, these incidents might be connected, and I have reason to believe that it was the same person who did it,” Candice summarized briefly.
A sense of guilt washed over Bettina. “What? Can you confirm that? I’ve perused the surveillance records myself and didn’t spot any anomalies.”
“Well, they did a good job. Had I not been observing several surveillance feeds simultaneously and noticed discrepancies in the timelines, it would have gone undetected,” Candice replied seriously. “I intend to delve deeper into this. We’re dealing with someone who is as proficient as us.”
Bettina frowned and offered a vague remark. “Well, just take care, okay?”
Candice nodded.
At that moment, a soft knock sounded at the door.
The receptionist murmured from beyond the door, “Miss Blake, your presence is required. There’s a lady named Sigrid Olson who is eagerly looking forward to meeting you. I advised her to book a later appointment, but she blatantly disregarded me and displayed a rather obstinate demeanor.”
Candice found herself taken aback upon hearing this.
“Who’s causing a stir in my personal space?” questioned Bettina as she pushed open the door.
The receptionist, shaking her head in confusion, voiced out, “Miss Reeves, I don’t recognize her, but she has an air of commanding elegance.”
Holding onto Bettina’s arm, Candice reassured her, “Let me handle this. She’s from the Olson family.”
“Olson family? Which Olson family? The one I’m thinking of? The renowned one?” Bettina couldn’t help but display her perplexity.
