Chapter 744
Chapter 744:
“And where do you think you’re off to? You’ve been in an accident. Rest is what you need.”
Surprised, Candice looked at him. “What are you doing here?” It dawned on her that, in her desperate moment, she had turned to Greyson’s hospital without a second thought. Of course, Greyson would know about this.
Before he could respond, Candice brushed him off. “Move. I need to see him.”
Greyson’s face mirrored the dark skies outside. He understood she wanted to see Milton. Her first thoughts were of him, disregarding her own wellbeing. His annoyance rose, but he managed to pick her up.
“He’s okay. Just some scratches. He isn’t going anywhere. First, take care of yourself.”
Gently placing Candice back on the bed, he could see she was resisting. He held her down gently.
“Stay still. You’ve had a minor concussion. Lie back.”
Greyson noticed her hand was bleeding from where she had forcefully removed the IV line. Muttering an expletive under his breath, he…
She quickly applied a sterile cotton ball to the bleeding site and snapped, “Why would you pull out the IV line? If you hadn’t stopped the bleeding, it would have turned blue and swollen. Didn’t you know that?”
“None of your business. Let me go,” Candice fought back. A slight relief washed over her upon hearing Milton was okay, yet without seeing him safe, worry clung to her.
Candice hadn’t crossed paths with Greyson in a while. Now, her anxiety was palpable, and she paid him no mind.
Holding his anger in check, he said, “Candice! Why were you with Milton in the early hours? What led to you being pursued? Is it related to the Corless case? I specifically warned you against engaging in such perilous tasks. Were you even listening? Did you choose to work for him to put yourself in more danger? Candice, did you leave me to lead this kind of life?”
“What are you talking about? You know nothing. Don’t talk nonsense.”
Greyson wasn’t ready to release Candice. He persisted, “Quit being stubborn. Come back to me. At least you’ll be safe with me. I’ve warned you repeatedly. The Lopez family’s intricacies are beyond your understanding.”
Greyson kept to himself the details of Sigrid’s visit and her proposition for collaboration, which could bring risks to Candice with Milton.
“Today it was just a car mishap. What about tomorrow? What does the future hold? How many more risks will you face? Have you ever thought about that?” Greyson pressed.
“Will you let him go and agree to remarry me? From now on, I’ll be your shield. No one can harm you anymore.”
Candice felt depleted. She hadn’t expected Greyson to bring up remarriage again. To her surprise, he wasn’t ready to let go.
With an exasperated sigh, Candice pushed Greyson back. She uttered, “I can’t summon the strength to clarify for you. Please, move out of my path.” Suddenly, a knock echoed through the room.
