Chapter 748
Chapter 748:
Feeling slightly awkward, Candice replied, “How are you holding up? Should I get the doctor?” Milton had an air of wellbeing about him as he wove words together.
Just as Candice made to rise, Milton’s hand found hers. “Where do you think you’re going? I’m alright. Get closer to me.” Gently, he guided her to the edge of the bed.
His left hand ascended, grazing her cheek and neck. He said, “Let’s see.”
“Any injuries on you?”
Candice bit back a sob and shook her head in denial.
At that point, a nurse strode in to replace the drip.
When she spotted the conscious Milton, the nurse’s face lit up in a smile.
“Ah, you’re up. Let me swap out this IV bag for you.”
Milton’s gaze darted about before landing on her. “Where am I?”
“Harmony Hospital,” responded the nurse. “You had a car crash. It’s fortunate this lady here was coherent and managed to get you to the closest medical facility. Prompt medical attention ensured your survival. If not, excessive blood loss would have turned your situation critical, and recovery may not have been this speedy.”
The nurse replaced the IV bag with ease as she spoke. “This one is an antibiotic. The drip rate needs to be adjusted to a slower speed.”
After finishing her tasks, she made her way toward the door. While leaving, she said, “The doctor might be tied up at the moment. I’ll have him here as soon as I can.”
Milton’s grip on Candice’s wrist tightened in disbelief as the nurse exited. He tenderly unfurled her fingers, examining them closely. No tremors were detected, a sign that Candice was stable for now. She had been in a car crash too, but her post-traumatic stress disorder hadn’t flared up. How had she managed to drive?
“You got us to the hospital? How could that be? How did you manage?”
Candice, with a nonchalant shrug, replied, “I have no idea. The worry and anxiety took over me, and before I knew it, I had shifted gears and was reversing the car. I found myself here after hitting the accelerator. Honestly, even I was taken aback when we got here.”

She gave a small smile before adding, “And hey, I do have my driver’s license. I went through the standard training and aced the practical and written exams. Why the surprised face? I’m fully capable of driving.”
Gazing at her, Milton was certain it wasn’t as straightforward as she portrayed it. He had witnessed Candice gasping, her heart pounding, and her breath hitching whenever she touched the steering wheel. The strength she needed to conquer her post-traumatic stress disorder must have been enormous.
Cupping her face tenderly, Milton posed a question. “Was this for my sake?”
Color rushed to Candice’s cheeks as she denied, “No. I was simply so on edge, I found myself able to drive.” Her words seemed casual, and she guiltily averted her gaze.
“Come over,” Milton invited with a playful smile.
Candice found herself approaching him.
