Chapter 769
Chapter 770:
Sariah was too scared to say anything. She bowed her head and hurried out of the room.
Candice had already succumbed to sleep, reclining on the sofa.
The previous night had been an ordeal; she had been confined in the cold storage, leaving her sleep-deprived. Moreover, an early morning car accident had drained her of all her energy.
A roar from Milton jolted Candice awake. She opened her eyes to see Sariah fleeing from the room, trembling with fear, and quickly shutting the door behind her.
Bewildered, Candice couldn’t comprehend why Sariah had left so abruptly.
How could Milton drive away the round-the-clock caretaker? Did something go wrong?
“Why did Sariah leave?” Candice asked in confusion.
“Do you think I’m incapable of taking care of myself? I just don’t like being disturbed!” Milton retorted, raising an eyebrow. “Come here and nap with me. I’m feeling rather drowsy.”
Candice was rendered speechless. She didn’t move an inch.
Impatiently, Milton remarked, “Do you need me to carry you?”
“No, no,” Candice responded hastily, rising from the sofa and making her way to the bed. Clad in loose casual clothes, she felt adequately comfortable for a good sleep. “Lie on my left, hun,” Milton urged.
Candice positioned herself beside Milton on the bed, careful not to encroach too closely.
Inwardly, she sighed, realizing that she needed to comply so obediently with Milton’s demands since she was in his place.
After giving it some more thought, she realized that she didn’t have to be like that. After all, it was her house, her investment. Damn it! It seemed that wherever they were, it was always Milton’s turf!

“Why are you keeping such a distance from me?” Taking advantage of his uninjured left hand, Milton pulled Candice closer to him. “Stay still. I shall rest for a while.”
With that, Milton encircled her shoulder with his arm and closed his eyes, settling into a state of repose.
Having already taken a brief nap, Candice found herself wide awake. She dared not move, yet she couldn’t resist. So, she lay there, eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling, lost in thought. Beside her, a mixture of Milton’s breath and the scent of medicine lingered in the air.
As she looked at Milton, his injured form stirred a wave of sympathy in Candice. Despite her eyes being wide open, sleep evaded her. Eventually, she curled up in his embrace, seeking comfort, and drifted into slumber once more.
When she awoke, it was already evening.
