Chapter 823
Chapter 826:
Suddenly, a knock echoed from Candice’s office door.
Lifting her gaze from a mountain of paperwork, she directed it towards the door. It was past office hours. Who could possibly pay her a visit?
Could it be Milton?
“Hold on,” Candice called out towards the door.
Swiftly, she stashed the papers littering her desk into a drawer. Just as Milton pushed open the door, the final document tied to the Blake Group vanished into the drawer.
Upon knocking, Milton paused for a moment before entering, seeing that Candice made no move to invite him in.
“Still swamped with work? I just got done with my meeting.”
Candice rose from her chair, feigning tidying up her desk. “Ah, I just completed the answer brief and submitted it to the court. And Bettina handed off a case to me that needed attention.”
Candice padded her explanation to Milton, wary of arousing his suspicion. She wasn’t quite ready to involve him in her parents’ issues, especially as she was still untangling her own thoughts on the matter.
Milton strode towards her, eyeing the clean desk, and suggested, “Let’s go home.”
“Sounds good,” Candice replied.
Milton then spotted an unopened takeout box on a nearby table.
“You skipped dinner?” Raising an eyebrow, Milton reprimanded, “No matter how swamped you are, you should eat. You really don’t look out for yourself.”
“Well, I wasn’t hungry earlier.” Candice powered down her computer, offering an awkward smile. “But now I am.”
She grabbed the takeout box and said, “I’ll just warm it up at home.”
“It’s been sitting cold and sealed for quite some time. Even reheated, it won’t taste great. Toss it.” Milton took the takeout box from Candice’s grasp and tossed it effortlessly into the trash bin.

Candice was rendered speechless as she witnessed her dinner being discarded into the trash.
He was quite wasteful and overly picky. He hadn’t even bothered to open the box before discarding it. In fact, Milton simply disliked her consuming takeout food.
“What do you want to eat? I’ll take you there.” Milton guided Candice out of the office.
“A proper meal seems like too much effort. I just feel like a hamburger.” Candice eyed Milton before adding, “From that street-side vendor. The one I introduced you to last time.”
Hearing this, Milton scrunched his brows. He wasn’t fond of the aged building, decaying walls, antiquated blue roof, steamy atmosphere, and oily scent. It left a sour taste in his mouth.
“I just have a sudden craving for it.” Candice offered him an ingratiating smile.
“Alright, let’s head there.” Milton conceded.
They descended the stairs together, and Milton steered the car toward the stall. After parking the car, they ambled toward the stall.
