Chapter 825
Chapter 828:
After a while, Lara approached them with pickled cucumbers, fried corn, braised soybeans, mashed potatoes, and even salad.
She had personally prepared all the dishes.
“We’ll just have two hamburgers, Lara. No pies, please. He doesn’t eat pig skin,” Candice said.
The last time Milton heard the words “pig skin,” he felt nauseated. Candice was genuinely impressed by his reaction. So, this time, she made sure to take note of it.
“Certainly!” Lara agreed with a warm smile.
Soon, two hamburgers were placed before them.
Candice carefully handed one over to Milton.
Milton cast her a glance, moved by her attention to his distaste for pig skin. He tasted the hamburger and commented, “It’s actually quite good. But this roadside stand could do better. If you’re fond of this place, I could get my team to consider investing in it and turn it into a national chain.”
Candice laughed at his suggestion. “But then it would lose its unique charm and turn into just another business enterprise.”
She gestured toward Lara, who was busy making hamburgers, and continued, “This shop has a century-long history. Many have wanted to invest and help Lara establish a branch downtown. But for Lara, this shop is her life’s work. Sometimes, preserving the originality matters the most.”
Milton nodded in agreement, his gaze fixed on Candice.
Indeed, he too had never lost sight of his original intentions.
Ten years ago, in the cold storage, when Candice had taken the initiative to kiss him, her lips trembling, he fell for her.
The next morning, Candice woke up feeling refreshed. She stretched and lay back in bed for a few extra moments before finally rising. Milton had gotten up earlier than her and had already left the room.
After freshening up, Candice made her way downstairs to the dining room. Milton had already had his breakfast. He was likely changing his clothes in the dressing room. Candice knew that he had an important matter to attend to that morning. She overheard him arranging an appointment over the phone, but she refrained from probing for more details.

Settling down at the table, Candice had breakfast alone. She sipped on milk and ate waffles.
The grand villa was so quiet, prompting Candice to switch on the TV for some background noise. The latest morning news was being broadcast on the screen.
The news instantly captivated her attention.
Setting her fork aside, she rose from her seat and approached the television screen.
“This morning, two men were found dead at the Frontsea Apartment. Preliminary investigations suggest a deadly altercation stemming from a business dispute, resulting in mutual fatal stabbings. The deceased are reported to be the founders of Centilength Biotech Company…”
