Chapter 859
Chapter 862:
A wave of dread washed over Candice. She impulsively asked, “How did you know my blood type?”
“I glimpsed it in your pregnancy test report previously.” Milton looked up and queried, “What prompts this sudden curiosity?”
“Oh, nothing much,” Candice prevaricated.
She felt her mood plummet further. Why did Milton share the same blood type as her? On reflection, Candice didn’t know Erica’s blood type. After all, there were many possible blood type groups. Her query seemed pointless.
At that moment, Milton lifted his head from the papers, his dark eyes studying her intensely. “Since yesterday, you’ve been acting peculiar. What’s up? If you don’t disclose, I’ll investigate it myself.”
Hearing his threat, Candice swiftly rose from the couch and stated, “There’s truly nothing. Some colleagues stumbled upon a strange case. A couple discovered they were siblings after a blood test.”
“Ah, typical soap opera stuff,” Milton dismissed it nonchalantly. “What would be your course of action if you found yourself in such a predicament?” Candice ventured.
“I never make assumptions. It’s meaningless.” Milton couldn’t be bothered to respond.
Candice was at a loss for words.
Just as anticipated, men tended to gravitate toward logic and hesitated to respond to emotional inquiries.
“Come on. I’m just curious,” Candice insisted.
“That won’t happen to me.” Abruptly, Milton stared intently at Candice and declared, “The Lopez family has a rule that we can’t divorce after marriage or have an illegitimate child. Failing to comply implies forfeiting inheritance rights and leaving the Lopez family.”
Candice was flabbergasted.

A glimmer of hope rose deep within Candice’s heart.
Maybe she was unnecessarily worrying too much.
Unlike the Olson family, the Lopez family had much stricter rules. And it seemed Paisley didn’t know much about them.
Suddenly, it was clear to Candice why Milton had followed her to the Harman family’s residence and why he had asked the driver in the pouring rain to get her contraceptive pills when he didn’t know her identity. She also realized why he had offered an exorbitant price in court. Milton had warned her that if she happened to get pregnant, she would have to get an abortion. There was a reason behind it.
The reason was that the Lopez men couldn’t get divorced. For some reason, after hearing these words, she felt much more comfortable and even a little sweet.
However, it still didn’t explain Arlo’s disappearance. Had he violated a rule? Had he done something that the family thought of as taboo?
As these thoughts crowded her mind, Candice felt very uneasy.
She looked at her phone and checked her inbox, but she hadn’t received any email from the identification center. Candice didn’t know when the machine would be repaired.
