Chapter 866
Chapter 869:
She hated making decisions about jewelry and clothing the most. For most women, dressing up was a delightful affair, filled with intrigue and excitement. But for Candice, it was nothing short of a nightmare. The sight of clothes piled before her made her head spin and her legs weaken.
Just then, Milton, clad in a night robe, appeared in the cloakroom.
“Please help me choose. You have good taste. Pick one,” Candice said, wasting no time in bestowing upon him the responsibility of choosing her attire, acknowledging his well-regarded taste. She conveniently passed on the task, as per their earlier agreement.
“Very well,” Milton acquiesced without hesitation.
Delving into the depths of the wardrobe, he extracted a trio of options for Candice’s consideration: a resplendent lake-blue evening dress, an opulent dark purple gown, and an understated black ensemble. “Begin with these,” he suggested.
“What? Must I try them all on? Can’t I simply select one and wear it tomorrow?” Candice bemoaned, her spirits dampened by the arduousness of changing clothes. In hindsight, had she known the magnitude of this ordeal, she would have chosen an outfit unaided, without soliciting Milton’s opinion.
Little did she know her predicament was self-imposed!
In a moment of recollection, Candice’s mind conjured an image of Milton tirelessly sifting through twenty different outfits in the past. A shiver ran down her spine, the fear of being subjected to the same ordeal causing her discomfort. She dreaded the prospect of having to change clothes one after another.
Alas, her fear materialized.
When she emerged in the lake-blue evening suit, Milton dismissed it as antiquated.
When she came out in the long dark purple dress, he declared it too flamboyant.
And when she unveiled the black evening dress, he disparaged its tranquility and lack of distinction.
A fiery anger flickered in Candice’s eyes, and she felt an overwhelming urge to explode.

Milton insisted she try on three or four more outfits, leaving her puzzled and exasperated.
She couldn’t fathom what he was aiming for.
“I refuse to change anymore. I’ll simply wear my work clothes tomorrow, alright? We’re done here!” Candice declared, her frustration mounting. She hadn’t even begun the task of selecting jewelry, shoes, and bags. But at this rate, she doubted she would finish in time within the next two hours.
Milton observed her with an amused expression. He recognized that Candice took everything else in life seriously, yet she showed little concern for her appearance.
Ironically, it was precisely this indifference that made her unique.
Milton stood before the closet for a prolonged moment before finally removing a pure white dress adorned with delicate pearls, a piece both simple and elegant. He handed it to Candice and said, “Good girl, try on this last one.”
Rolling her eyes, Candice retorted, “Fine, it better be the last one!” Milton nodded, a smile playing on his lips.
