Chapter 883
Chapter 886:
“That’s because you were visually impaired,” Raul teased, draping his arm around her shoulder.
“Come on, let’s go grab some champagne. I’ll introduce you to the others. They’re all from influential families. Your law firm could really benefit from this.”
“Sounds perfect,” Bettina replied, her smile widening.
Her mood, once dampened by Bart’s presence, was now lifted by Raul’s words.
They reached the champagne counter, and Raul handed her a glass.
Raising her glass, she offered a toast.
“Cheers.”
“Cheers,” Raul echoed, downing his drink in one go.
As he watched Bettina sip her champagne, her lips touched by the wine and a soft rosy hue coloring her cheeks, a wave of affection rose within him.
He knew his initial feelings of pity had evolved into something far deeper.
At that moment, Raul realized—he was in love with her.
Meanwhile, Milton and Candice made their way to the underground parking, their arrival slightly delayed due to Milton being occupied with a pressing matter.
As the vehicle came to a halt, Candice reached for the makeup mirror in the car. She dabbed a bit of foundation under her eyes to hide the dark circles caused by recent overindulgences but dismissed the idea of applying lip gloss altogether.
Milton, glancing her way, commented, “You’re more than beautiful as you are, no makeup necessary. The mere addition of cosmetics would only make others feel inadequate. Take me, for instance, I never put extra effort into my attire to avoid making others feel inferior.”
Candice rolled her eyes in response. Was he complimenting her, or was this just another subtle form of self-praise? He claimed not to make an effort in dressing up, yet she noticed his frequent wardrobe changes. What a laughable claim!
Milton seemed to be basking in his own self-importance once again.

Suddenly, his attention was drawn to an odd box peeking out from Candice’s open handbag. Reaching out, he retrieved it and found it to be filled with black pills.
“What are these?” he asked, his brow furrowing in confusion.
Nonchalantly, Candice popped open the box, took out a pill, and chewed it.
“Don’t just eat anything randomly,” Milton warned, flipping the box over to read the ingredients. “What the hell is this?”
With a deliberate smirk, Candice replied, “Ah, your mother handed these over to me this morning. They’re good for women’s health. She reminded me to consume them on time.”
Milton’s confusion deepened. “Why would she give you these?”
Feigning shock, Candice looked at him and answered, “Probably because she worries your high demands will end up killing me.”
Caught off guard, Milton was speechless.
It took him a moment to fully grasp what she was implying.
Though his desires were strong, surely, they wouldn’t be fatal.
