Chapter 914
Chapter 918:
Jarrod clarified, “The secretaries were a bit loose with their tongues and conduct. They engaged in idle chatter about the relationship between Miss Olson and Mr. Lopez in private, spreading rumors about Miss Olson being engaged to Mr. Lopez. Mr. Lopez always hated others gossiping behind his back. As for the exact details, I’m not entirely sure. You might want to check with Mr. Lopez this evening.”
“Okay.” Candice signaled her understanding, though she wasn’t particularly interested in probing further.
So this was the reason. No wonder Blair and the rest vanished.
Soon afterwards, they pulled up at the courthouse.
Candice alighted from the car in a rush. The court session was due to commence in less than eight minutes.
Racing against time, she slid into the plaintiff’s attorney’s seat just in the nick of time.
Candice offered her apology to the plaintiff. “Apologies for the delay. But worry not. We’re on track to win this case.”
The hearing went on until one in the afternoon.
The courtroom was a battlefield of vigorous arguments, and Candice made an unusual legal interpretation from an unconventional perspective. Eventually, she secured a victory, achieving the most beneficial outcome for the plaintiff.
Following the hearing, the plaintiff conveyed his thanks to Candice.
Candice didn’t linger around.
Jarrod was stationed outside the court, waiting for her. Her driving exam was scheduled for half past two in the afternoon. Given the test venue’s remote location, Candice didn’t have sufficient time to grab lunch.
Jarrod had put together a quick bite for her, remarking, “Miss Blake, you can eat once we reach the testing site’s entrance. I’m concerned that the car might shake during the ride.”
Candice took hold of the lunch box and set up the rear seat’s dining table, responding, “Not an issue. Stick to your usual driving style. I’m used to having lunch in the car. My typical day involves morning court sessions followed by another one after lunch. I’ve been there, done that. I’ll begin eating now. Eating right before the test would only unsettle my stomach.”

With that, Candice lifted the lid off the lunch box and the accompanying coffee.
Her stomach growled in hunger.
“Understood, Miss Blake. I’ll make sure the drive is as smooth as possible,” Jarrod promised respectfully. He held Candice in high regard. He was well aware of the ties between Candice and Mr. Lopez. Had it been any other woman enjoying Mr. Lopez’s support, she wouldn’t have subjected herself to such hardships, let alone work tirelessly. She would be living life to the fullest, indulging in spa treatments, pampering herself with beauty regimes, shopping, and the like. After all, such women were a dime a dozen in the world of wealth and power.
Upon reaching the testing site, Candice pulled out her notes for a quick revision before taking the test. In addition, she put forth several professional queries to Jarrod. After all, he was a skilled driver. This gesture made Jarrod feel valued.
Candice strode into the testing site.
