Chapter 937
Chapter 943:
Bettina and Raul had even arrived before Candice, aware of her aversion to social gatherings. Earlier in the day, Bettina had attended to numerous tasks on Candice’s behalf, fully understanding her friend’s preferences.
Seeing Candice, Bettina held her hand excitedly, her eyes shining. “Wow, where are you from? You look like an angel!”
Candice responded with a smile, playfully nudging Bettina. “Don’t tease me,” she said, radiating joy.
“I mean it. You’re so beautiful!” Bettina turned to Raul, her voice filled with anticipation. “What are your thoughts, Raul? Don’t you think Candice looks absolutely amazing?”
Raul had never seen Candice dressed like this, and he couldn’t help but be amazed. Now he was fully aware that Milton had impeccable taste.
“Yes,” he agreed, unable to hide his admiration. “She is truly charming.
But you, Bettina, are also quite unique.”
Raul made sure to offer Bettina a compliment as well.
Glancing at his wrist, Raul checked his watch and furrowed his brow in confusion. “Why hasn’t Milton arrived yet? He should have arrived by now.”
“Oh, he went on a business trip last night and will return today. I didn’t contact him because I didn’t want to distract him while he was driving,” Candice said softly.
“He went on a business trip? Why wasn’t I informed? I had no idea he had such a schedule.” Raul pondered for a moment before suggesting, “How about you call him now?”
Bettina looked around at the arriving guests and expressed her bewilderment. “Guests have been coming one after another. Oh, it’s so strange. Why isn’t Erica here?”

Candice felt a sense of uneasiness creeping up inside her, and her breath quickened. “Okay, I’ll call him.”
She retrieved her phone and dialed Milton’s number, but her attempts to reach him were unsuccessful.
She waited for a while, only to hear a polite female voice on the other end. “Sorry, the number you dialed cannot be connected at the moment. Please try again later.”
Candice stood there, stunned. A flash of helplessness flickered in her beautiful eyes.
Bettina rushed to comfort her, saying hurriedly, “Maybe he’s busy driving, or perhaps he’s somewhere without a signal. Maybe he’s in the mountains? Or a basement? Or stuck in a lift? You know, the signal in those places can be terrible. Let’s call him later.”
Candice nodded, her mind clouded with worry. Raul frowned, understanding the situation better than anyone else. Having grown up with Milton as a close friend, he knew him well. It seemed evident that something had happened. Otherwise, Milton would have informed Candice about the reason for his delay. He couldn’t bear to make his beloved wait anxiously. Furthermore, Erica, being a gentle and generous lady, should have arrived early to such an important occasion. Raul’s intuition gnawed at him, and he had a sinking feeling that something unexpected would happen at the engagement party tonight. However, he didn’t dare voice his concerns to the two ladies.
