Chapter 940
Chapter 946:
But Raul sensed that something was amiss. He tried calling Milton, only to find that his phone was switched off.
Raul was taken aback by this unexpected development. No way! Milton wouldn’t switch off his phone!
Seeing Raul’s grave expression, Candice also tried calling Milton.
But the outcome was the same.
The female voice informed her in an indifferent tone that Milton’s phone was switched off.
She and Raul both had the same thought.
Milton, under any circumstances, would not act in such a way.
Anxiety engulfed her, and she clutched Bettina’s arm tightly, uttering, “He’s never done this before. Something must be wrong. Did he… Did he have an accident? He didn’t take the driver with him on his business trip…” Fear took hold of her.
She dared not even consider the possibility, utterly unable to control her shaking.
The vehicle crash memories were something she had no control over. Her parents had been killed in a car crash right in front of her, and ever since then, she had been on her own. She dreaded the possibility of losing Milton in a similar manner, knowing she couldn’t bear another devastating blow.
“No, that can’t have happened. Let’s wait a little longer. Just try to think of something else,” Bettina tried to console her, but it was futile. Driven by desperation, Candice broke free from Bettina’s grasp and rushed to the banquet hall’s entrance. “I have to find him!”
Elmo gently halted Candice’s progress. “Where are you off to in search of him? Do you know where he is? Calm down.”
Elmo had an inkling that something was amiss. Deep down, he believed that Milton’s absence tonight was intentional.
Yet, Candice was in no mood for persuasion; she struggled, attempting to break free from Elmo’s grip.

In the midst of this turmoil, the once-glamorous engagement banquet hall fell into disarray. The guests exchanged bewildered glances, engaging in hushed discussions about the unfolding situation.
“It appears Mr. Lopez is not here. Will the engagement party be canceled?”
“Indeed, Mrs. Lopez is absent as well. What could have happened?”
“I don’t know. It seems they might not be proceeding with the engagement after all.”
“Perhaps you’re right— I had a strange feeling before. Mr. Lopez is wealthy and influential. How could he possibly marry a woman with no power or background? No matter how beautiful and capable she may be, she might not be worthy of him.”
“I agree. Mr. Lopez chose not to marry Miss Olson but instead got engaged to a lawyer. When I received the invitation, I could hardly believe it.”
“Ha-ha! It turns out it was all in vain. Her dream of marrying a wealthy man seems to have been shattered.”
“Don’t talk nonsense. It’s still too early to draw any conclusions. Let’s see what’s going on first.”
