Chapter 949
Chapter 955:
From the moment she threw herself into his arms, Milton felt an overwhelming desire to hold her. Her body was cold, and it felt as though the cold had made its way to his heart. He wished he could wrap his arms around her to make her feel better, but he couldn’t.
It was as if his arms had frozen at his side. Several times, he attempted to lift them, but in the end, he gave up. He made an effort to stifle his actual emotions. In the end, he gradually pushed her away from him.
“Do not pester me. It’s unlike you. I’m weary of this game. What amount of money do you desire? I will pay any price to rid myself of this!”
Biting her quivering lower lip, Candice maintained unwavering eye contact with him, not deterred by his cold facade.
Overwhelmed by guilt under her penetrating gaze, Milton averted his eyes.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she said with unwavering clarity, “You’re lying! Your hand is pressing down, seeking solace. And your shoulders are betraying a trembling restraint! And why can’t you look into my eyes? Your rehearsed speech flowed without a single pause. But you cannot deceive me, for God’s sake! I’m a lawyer, and subtle expressions are my forte. You can’t hide from me!”
Without hesitation, Candice retrieved her phone and activated an application, the device emitting two distinctive beeps.
Presenting the phone before him, she said, “Milton, this is a lie detector app I’ve downloaded. Now, look into my eyes and repeat what you said. Unless, of course, you want me to doubt you further!”
Milton’s anger flared up suddenly, causing him to forcefully push away her phone, retorting, “Don’t subject me to that nonsense. It won’t work! I meant what I said; I’m tired of you! You overestimate yourself. I was merely toying with you! And I have never treated you poorly. I never imagined you’d be this tangled up. Just leave!”
Candice’s fragile form trembled uncontrollably. She was unable to withstand the emotional turmoil.
Having made up his mind, Milton knew she couldn’t remain here any longer, for it would only bring her further shame.

Unable to endure the painful scene any longer, she stooped to collect her phone, tossed aside by him earlier. “Fine, I understand. As long as you’re alright, I find relief. I’m leaving.”
With those words, she straightened herself, turned away, and began walking away step by step.
Once Candice went out of his view, Milton leaned against the door weakly. It seemed as if all of his energy had drained out of his body.
He had no choice. The only way was to push her away. Milton couldn’t repeat what he had said in front of the lie detector because he didn’t mean any of it.
Kori heard the sounds outside and came out of the suite.
When she saw Milton, she asked timidly, “Mr. Lopez? Did Candice—”
Milton turned around abruptly and spoke in a frigid tone. “Get out! Take everything that you touched along with you.”
“Okay. I’ll leave right away.” Kori nodded hurriedly. She didn’t need to be smart to know Milton was way out of her league. It didn’t matter that he was like a Greek God and resided in every woman’s heart.
