Chapter 954
Chapter 960:
The ambulance arrived three minutes later.
Greyson had been busy with the AED, while the paramedics hurriedly administered oxygen. After some essential first aid, Milton and Greyson accompanied Candice into the ambulance.
Candice’s condition showed no signs of improvement; the onboard doctors found themselves performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Given the pressing nature of time, they opted for the nearest medical facility rather than Harmony Hospital. Greyson strained every resource at his disposal to ensure that Candice would have a fighting chance at surgery.
The closest hospital turned out to be St. Peter Hospital, a private facility. Despite its state-of-the-art operating rooms, it lacked the presence of a top-tier heart surgeon. Greyson, however, had enough influence in the industry to facilitate an emergency operation in their operating room.
Milton took a seat next to Candice, her cool hand held tightly within his. He was usually a pillar of calm and self-control, but this situation had him completely disoriented.
Meanwhile, Greyson was reaching out to his team of skilled doctors and nurses.
“Who’s the anesthetist on call tonight? Is Barton Lee present? No? How is that possible? Can’t reach him? Is he asleep? Utterly irresponsible, consider him fired. Is Ms. Leda Campbell there? She needs to come to St. Peter Hospital immediately. I’m unable to reach Dr. Roosevelt. I remember he didn’t have any surgery scheduled for tonight. It wasn’t on the timetable I checked. What did you say? How did I miss knowing about his arrangement? When did he leave?” Greyson’s face darkened. He was so angry that he felt the urge to smash his phone.
Catching his expression, Milton questioned, “What seems to be the issue?”
Greyson responded in despair, “Our top heart surgeon is out of town. He has a surgery overseas, and his flight has already departed.”
“Does she need surgery?” Milton asked, startled.
“Indeed. I fear she might require a mitral valve replacement,” Greyson hastily explained before diving back into his phone.

“Has anyone seen Dr. Chavez?” As Greyson’s anxiety escalated, his voice boomed louder and louder.
“Principal Harman, my apologies. Dr. Chavez has the day off and is currently unreachable. Should I try to locate him at his residence?”
“I don’t have time for this!” Greyson yelled.
Frustration seeped into his voice. “Summon Dr. Roosevelt’s assistants to St. Peter Hospital immediately. They are needed for an operation.”
“Understood, Principal Harman,” the voice on the other end agreed before hanging up to execute the orders.
Milton might not have fully grasped the medical jargon Greyson was using, but he understood enough from Greyson’s frantic demeanor to know the operation was going to be complex.
Milton had the means to summon the best heart surgeons in Lothardowen, but time was not on their side. Candice needed immediate surgery.
“So, we can’t reach any specialists. What’s the plan now?” Milton said, fear creeping into his voice.
