Chapter 959
Chapter 965:
Following a turbulent night, the corridor now basked in brilliant sunlight.
Milton had stationed himself outside the operating room throughout the night, battling sleepiness. Despite the fatigue, he refrained from shutting his eyes. Anxiety and fear gripped him.
As the clock hit twelve, the operating room door finally swung open.
Milton’s attention was immediately captured by the faint vibration. He quickly got up, only to find that his own strength was waning, causing him to lean against the wall for support.
Greyson, visibly worn out, emerged from the operating room. He had shed his surgical cap and mask, and the dark circles under his eyes, along with his pale face, spoke volumes about the difficulty of the procedure he had just completed.
“How is she?” Milton asked the moment he spotted Greyson.
Too tired to speak, Greyson merely nodded.
The nod brought relief to Milton. Finally, she was out of danger.
Leda followed right behind Greyson.
Taking over for Greyson, she explained, “The surgery was a major success, executed flawlessly even though it turned out to be more complicated than we expected. Because of the anesthesia, Candice will regain consciousness in another 24 hours. We need to keep her in the ICU for 12 hours.”
Checking her watch, Leda added, “We’re planning to move her to the VIP intensive care unit at Harmony Hospital at 12 a.m. tonight.” She turned her gaze to Greyson and said, “Principal Harman, I’ll arrange for a patient transfer vehicle.”
Greyson nodded, too drained to find words. Performing surgery took a lot out of him, and performing it on someone he deeply cared about amplified the stress. Thankfully, he held on. When he saw Candice’s heart rate stabilize, he felt a sudden wave of relief that revealed just how exhausted he was.
He staggered, rubbing his temple.
Without Milton’s timely help, he might have collapsed.
𝓥𝓮𝓻𝓼𝓲𝓸𝓷 𝓬𝓱𝓮𝓬𝓴𝓮𝓭:
“Principal Harman, you really need to rest,” Leda urged, hurrying to support him.
“Alright.” Greyson accepted the suggestion. He indeed needed some rest. “Tell the assistants to keep an eye on her. Wake me up if anything goes wrong.”
“No worries, Principal Harman,” Leda assured.
“I can manage on my own. Thank you.” Greyson declined Leda’s assistance and made his way unsteadily to the lounge.
Milton expressed his gratitude. “Thank you for saving her. I’ll visit her now and then take my leave.”
Greyson scoffed. What was Milton saying? Who was he to offer a “thank you” to him? Saving Candice was his responsibility.
Turning his gaze to Milton, Greyson said, “I hope you keep your promise.”
With that, he pivoted and departed without giving him another look.
Milton stood there momentarily, his hands involuntarily retracting by his side. He had previously assumed that Greyson didn’t care for Candice. Clearly, he was mistaken. The recent events had shown the depth of Greyson’s affection for her.
