Chapter 969
Chapter 975:
With a final zip, Candice sealed her suitcase and started to move toward the exit.
“Please help me with the discharge formalities. Charge it to the law firm’s account. Bettina will settle the medical expenses.”
A trace of frustration flashed in Greyson’s eyes as he stepped forward, gently grasping her wrist. “Why do you insist on keeping your distance from me? You don’t need to pay for the treatment.”
Candice furrowed her brow. “Let it go. I won’t pay. Thank you for looking after me during these days.”
Greyson stood there, dumbfounded. Her impassive demeanor only deepened his sense of despair.
Refusing to release her, he continued, “Candice, please listen to me. It’s true that I set up a trap and built a shell company. But Rachel’s inherent greediness was the catalyst, and she got what she deserved. You’ve suffered deeply at her hands, and all I wanted was to seek justice for you. I donated all the money to charities. Are you satisfied with her current situation?”
Candice remained silent.
Greyson’s voice trembled slightly as he continued, “Do you still remember that night with Madilyn? No, what you witnessed wasn’t the truth. I have never had sex with Madilyn, not even that night. She deliberately set me up. I didn’t touch her. I’m sure about that.”
Candice shook her head, stating, “You don’t need to explain so much. I know Madilyn did it intentionally to upset me. It was typical of her. I didn’t mind.”
“Then why are you going home?” Greyson implored, taking the suitcase from her hand. “You can leave the hospital, but please come home with me. Please?”
“I’m sorry.” Candice continued to resist.
“Why? Are you refusing me because of Milton?” Even though he abandoned you, you won’t accept me? Candice, please wake up. He no longer deserves your love. He’s made it clear he gave up on you. Now, for your sake, even for your health, I’m your best option.”

The more he spoke, the more fervent his words became. “I was wrong before. I know that now. I’ve also suffered immensely for my mistakes. I can’t sleep well every day without you. I admit I used some manipulative tactics to win you back, and you might think I went too far. But I won’t do that in the future, as long as you return to me. I promise I won’t do anything to hurt you.”
Suddenly, he couldn’t restrain himself any longer and held her tightly in his arms, as if afraid she would vanish if he let go.
Candice, in an uncharacteristic display, didn’t resist. She gazed up at him within his embrace, her expression unusually serious as she said plainly, “Greyson, even without Milton, we can never return to the past.”
Hearing those words, Greyson froze and instinctively asked, “Why?”
Candice sighed. “Ask yourself. Can you truly let go of the past between me and Milton? Even if you don’t mind it now, what about the future? Ten years later? Twenty years later? This matter will always be a thorn between us. Why do you insist?”
Her words hung in the air, and there was a poignant pause before she continued, “You will find the right one. Forget me. I will gradually fade away in your memory.”
