Chapter 971
Chapter 977:
By now, he had successfully fortified the Harman Group’s presence in the pharmaceutical industry, acquiring both the Blake Group and a majority of the biopharmaceutical technology firms in Ploville. In this particular sector, which the Royal Garden Corporation didn’t cover, he had undeniably emerged as the victor.
But it was all useless.
He possessed immense wealth and influence, yet he lacked someone to share it with. From this point onward, he was left with an unending stream of work, boundless wealth, and a profound sense of emptiness and loneliness that seemed never-ending.
Candice returned from Harmony Hospital to the eerily quiet Blake family villa. Winter had settled in, and the unheated floors made the house uncomfortably cold.
She lugged her suitcase into the living room, realizing that all traces of Milton had been erased, as though he had never existed. Though she had been the one insisting he move out, his actual departure left the house engulfed in a haunting stillness.
Sighing, Candice remained silent.
She hauled her suitcase to her bedroom and unpacked her hospital essentials, changing into attire appropriate for her upcoming business trip to Thonde. While winter reigned in Ploville, Thonde’s climate was hot, prompting her to pack a versatile wardrobe.
Her phone buzzed. It was Bettina.
“Candy, you’re out of the hospital now?”
“Yes.” As she conversed, she continued packing. “My assistant is delivering the final documents for the human rights case and the official commission letter from Royal Garden Corporation to the Ploville airport before 5 P.M. I’m packing up now. I’ll shower and grab some takeout before heading out.”
“You’re flying to Thonde tonight?” Bettina queried, clearly surprised.
“Yes. The trial is just a few days away. I’ll go to get ready. I want to familiarize myself with the jury,” Candice replied.

Bettina’s concern was palpable. “Candy, are you really alright? As your best friend, I know you. The busier and calmer you seem, the more I worry.” Bettina hesitated before adding, “Should I accompany you to Thonde?”
“Thanks, but no. There’s a lot to manage here, and your presence in Thonde won’t make a significant difference. I’ve got this. Don’t worry, I’m okay,” Candice reassured her as she checked her laptop and other gadgets.
“Fine then. How long do you anticipate staying?” Bettina asked.
“Roughly a month. Shorter if things go smoothly. Perhaps twenty days,” Candice replied.
“Wow, that’s quite a while,” Bettina exclaimed, bewildered. “Isn’t this just a preliminary hearing?”
“The judicial system there is different. Jury trials take longer. I won’t bore you with the specifics. Just know that I’ll return once the jury’s verdict is in.” By this point, Candice had finished packing her suitcase.
