Chapter 978
Chapter 984:
Glancing at her watch, Candice wore an innocent grin.
“You have ten minutes. Stick around any longer, and I’ll dig deep into your past. Murder is a serious charge. Add fraud to that, and you’re looking at multiple offenses. A two-decade sentence, non-negotiable. The statute of limitations hasn’t expired, you know. Ah, I didn’t introduce myself. I’m Candice Blake, and as for who I am…”
Drawing near to Maia, she noticed Maia trembling uncontrollably. She sneered.
“Didn’t you hear? I’m the unbeatable top attorney at Hope Law Firm.”
Maia’s complexion turned ghostly white.
With a thud, she collapsed to the ground. But then, she sprang up and dashed out of the office to her secretary’s desk. She hastily packed and left.
Finding another sugar daddy would be possible. A prison sentence would mean the end of her life.
Kori couldn’t believe how easily Candice had sent Maia packing. Maia had been like a persistent fly, always picking fights whenever they crossed paths.
Kori had felt helpless against her. She had to admit that Candice was far more formidable. With Maia now fleeing in fear, it only confirmed Candice’s earlier suspicions.
“This is terrifying. A killer posing as a secretary here in Ploville? Candice, thanks for uncovering that. Do you have any idea how insufferable she’s been? You’ve done an incredible job!”
Noticing that Maia had scrambled away, grabbing only her phone, identity card, and wallet, Kori was elated.
After Maia’s exit, Kori asked, “Candice, it’s been ages. How did you discover Maia’s secret life? Have you been watching her the whole time?”
Candice shot a quick look at Milton before responding.
𝘾𝙤𝙥𝙮 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚:
“Digging into her history wasn’t hard. She used to live in her hometown. Given my law background, I’ve got classmates scattered across the nation. So I asked one from her hometown to help me out.”
“Ah, that makes sense. She’d changed her name. No wonder she was such a mystery here. Ugh, the audacity of her, acting so high and mighty around me. I assumed she was competent, but little did I know…”
Kori abruptly fell silent, noticing Candice’s icy stare fixed on her.
A chill ran down her spine, leaving her unnerved.
Kori managed a weak smile.
“Um… why are you looking at me like that? It’s unsettling.”
Candice smirked and lowered her head to retrieve another pile of papers from her bag. This time, she handed them to Kori. Her gesture was smooth, yet her eyes remained piercingly intense.
“Don’t get ahead of yourself. Your turn’s up next.”
