Chapter 1000
Chapter 1008:
Despite Bettina’s numerous sacrifices, Candice had no choice but to disappoint her.
Bettina was about to cry after hearing her apology.
Her usual cheerful demeanor crumbled as she succumbed to tears.
“Why are you apologizing? I should be the one apologizing. If it weren’t for Bart and his scheming, if… Because of me, Bart gained knowledge about you and ultimately exploited you. In essence, it’s all my doing!”
With her hands shielding her face, tears streamed down her cheeks.
Candice quickly rose to comfort Bettina, speaking softly. “No, Bettina, it’s not your fault. I’ve never regretted my choices. Please, believe me. I’ve only surrendered my lawyer’s license to step away temporarily. I will return someday. You know my capabilities. If I ever decide to reclaim my license, I can do so at my discretion.”
With tear-filled eyes, Bettina raised her gaze, her voice trembling as she asked, “Are you saying you won’t be around for a while?”
Candice pursed her lips, gripped by the urgency of her departure. It was imperative to hide her pregnancy, so she had to leave Ploville. She couldn’t hide it—not with the morning sickness.
She had no intention of revealing the truth to Bettina, haunted by the fear that she could unfairly shoulder the blame. “Don’t worry. I’ll be back.”
Staring into the depths of Candice’s resolute eyes, Bettina knew better than to challenge her resolve. She choked back her sobs and asked, “For how long?”
Candice pondered the question. “A year, perhaps two? It won’t be long.”
“Are you saying that one or two years are not long? We’ve never been apart for such a long time!” Bettina wept, her emotions taking hold.
Candice swiftly retrieved a handful of tissues, gently dabbing Bettina’s tears. She, too, teetered on the brink of tears.

“Betty, could you grant me some time? Trust that I shall unravel these complications. Time, that’s all I need.”
Candice consoled her as she wiped away Bettina’s tears. “Moreover, keep my relinquished lawyer’s license a secret for the time being. And don’t tell anyone that I’m leaving before I leave.”
“Where will you go from here?” Bettina’s tears ceased, and curiosity edged into her voice. “Will you contact me? Do you need me to prepare something for you? Maybe I can help you find a place.”
Candice shook her head, her words a gentle caress. “No need. I’ve arranged everything.”
Bettina sniffed. “When will you leave?”
Candice glanced at her wristwatch. “My luggage awaits at the airport. My flight is tonight. I will attend to my affairs at the law firm before I go.”
In truth, Candice had crafted two plans. She would carry her baggage home and reveal her impending motherhood if Milton altered his stance. If he remained obstinate, Ploville would see her no more for quite some time.
