Chapter 1029
Chapter 1039:
However, the moment he laid eyes on Candice, he was rendered momentarily speechless and utterly captivated.
He had concocted countless scenarios for their reunion, but none of them featured Candice in the attire of an international organization. Her flawless, delicate countenance, unique demeanor, and the uniform she wore were a breathtaking combination.
“What’s going on?” Elmo swiftly sifted through his memory. Having resided abroad year-round, he was somewhat familiar with the tricolor logo adorning her uniform.
Suddenly, it clicked. “ICIF? Candice, you’re working for the Joint International Financial Crimes Investigation Team?”
“Yes,” Candice affirmed with a nod and strolled past Elmo into his office. “Shut the door, and we can talk.”
Elmo remained momentarily stunned as he observed Candice with her hands resting on her hips. Over the past year, she had blossomed into an even more striking and enchanting figure, and he was deeply awed by her beauty.
How did a woman manage to become everyone’s superior even in the face of such adversity?
ICIF, the premier global force against financial and tax crimes, was a league above any ordinary organization.
Their requirements were stringent, and their tests incredibly challenging. Yet, Candice had managed to secure her place among them.
It became clear that a year ago, when she confidently assured Elmo of her assistance in obtaining the Olson family, she had already conceived a comprehensive strategy.
Elmo had initially harbored doubts about the feasibility of countering the Olson family solely through legal means, but the game had changed entirely. ICIF was poised to strike terror into the heart of the Olson family.
Once the door was closed, Elmo observed Candice as she moved to the window, her back to him. He couldn’t resist the urge to approach and inquire, “Lately, there have been numerous disruptions in companies affiliated with the Olson family. Was that your doing?”

Candice turned to face Elmo, a sly smile gracing her lips. “Who else do you think could have been behind it?”
She gazed out the window at the towering skyscrapers and the city’s hustle and bustle before pivoting her attention back to the office. Elmo’s office was opulent and grand, reflecting a European aesthetic and exuding an air of luxury and aristocracy. It likely mirrored his upbringing and environment.
“It seems you’ve fared quite well in Ploville this year,” Candice remarked as she perused the documents on Elmo’s desk. “I’ve heard that Sachs Investment Company’s capital operations are in excellent shape, boasting significant cash reserves and unrivaled foreign exchange holdings in Ploville.”
As she spoke, she extended her fingers to idly stroke the paperweight on Elmo’s desk.
Her apparently innocuous gesture made Elmo’s breath tighten. He knew that her action was likely unconscious, yet it still had a tantalizing effect, nearly driving him to lose his cool. This woman exuded an irresistible allure.
