Chapter 1028
Chapter 1038:
Candice responded, “Hold on a moment. I need to make a call.”
With that, Candice retrieved her phone and deftly input a sequence of numbers from memory.
Soon, the call connected.
A deep, masculine voice on the other end, unmistakably Elmo, inquired, “Who is this?”
“It’s me.” Candice nonchalantly replied, “Where’s your office in Ploville? Give me the address.”
On the other end of the line, Elmo initially seemed taken aback, then his voice resonated with a touch of excitement. “You’re back? I’m on the top floor of Zenith Mansion.”
“Understood. I’ll be heading there,” Candice replied before abruptly ending the call, not waiting for Elmo’s response.
In the Sachs Investment Company.
Elmo set his phone down and gazed out from his perch on the top floor of a towering edifice.
He took a deep breath, surveying the bustling traffic on the overpass amid the city’s forest of skyscrapers.
Elmo knew full well that he had been the sole individual to maintain contact with Candice over the past year, despite having never seen her or spoken with her during that time.
The sole link Elmo had to Candice was the email address she had left for him on her last note.
He hadn’t anticipated that Candice would vanish from Ploville without a trace. Despite using all his resources to search for her, he had come up empty-handed, much like Milton’s fruitless quest.
However, Candice had left her contact information with Elmo, and he had wisely kept it confidential.

Over the past year, he had maintained communication with Candice through email. Periodically, he sent her information he had gathered about the Olson family, account transactions, detailed lists of customers from the auction house and gallery.
Receiving her occasional replies brought him immense relief.
It meant that, at the very least, she hadn’t entirely vanished from his world. Candice had remained true to her promise to aid him in securing the power of the Olson family, and now, with her sudden return, a new chapter was set to unfold.
Elmo’s anticipation was palpable as he impatiently waited to see Candice. He was uncertain of her current state and couldn’t contain his restlessness.
As he paced back and forth in his office, his anxiety grew.
After less than half an hour, the sound of approaching footsteps in the corridor outside triggered a surge of adrenaline.
His heart raced, and he swiftly flung the door open.
