Chapter 1016
Chapter 1025:
Bettina’s eyes moistened immediately at his words.
In an abrupt and emotional moment, she sank to the floor, covering her face with trembling hands, her shoulders shaking.
Raul moved closer, squatting beside her, and gently patted her shoulder.
“It’s okay now. Have something to eat and take a warm bath. I’ll prepare the bathwater for you.”
He noticed the tears seeping through her fingers, and he longed to offer comfort, but he didn’t know how. Clenching his fists, the veins on the backs of his hands became prominent. He stood up and was about to go to the bathroom.
At that moment, Bettina reached out and held his arm. Her hand was wet, and a tear mark instantly formed on his sleeve.
“When I first met him, I had no idea who he truly was. He told me his name was Remington Graves.”
This was the first time Bettina had voluntarily shared her past with him. Raul was slightly astonished. He slowly turned and sat on the floor beside her, holding her hands.
Bettina took a deep breath, wiping her eyes with the edge of her sleeve.
“That night, I was too drunk to drive, so I sought a designated driver. I vividly recall the heavy rain that poured down relentlessly. He was sitting on the cold steps, drenched, with raindrops cascading from his hair.
I approached him and asked if he was a designated driver. When he lifted his head, his melancholic eyes and bewildered expression made it seem like the world had abandoned him. He said he was. I hesitated, wondering how he could drive in his soaked state. He reassured me, saying it didn’t matter. He would dry the seat. So, I asked him to drive me home.”
Bettina was transported back to that fateful night. It marked the beginning of their unexpected connection.

After chauffeuring her to the Chinsea Villa Complex, Bart had remained, sitting outside her door after drying the seat.
She had slept until almost noon, and when she awoke, she found him still seated there, sheltering from the rain. Filled with guilt, she invited him inside to shower and change. In return, he prepared a delicious, hearty lunch for her—an experience that felt strangely novel, as she didn’t know how to cook and had never before eaten a meal cooked by a stranger.
“What happened later?” Raul inquired softly, still in the dark about Bart’s past.
Bettina snorted. She continued with a bittersweet tone,
“It was like something out of a melodramatic movie. A wealthy woman fell for an ordinary and poor guy.”
Raul furrowed his brow.
“He was the son of the leader of the Universe Financial Group. How could he be poor? Did he conceal his identity and lie to you? That makes sense. He used a fake name.”
