Chapter 1013
Chapter 1022:
As she pieced together the underlying messages in his words, Bettina realized he had been lying to her. How dare he? She had assumed she was the one who had hurt Candice before. That was why she hadn’t dared to tell Candice, allowing Bart to take advantage of the situation and threaten her, thus leaving her at his mercy.
It turned out that everything had been part of his plan.
She shot him a furious look, her eyes blazing with anger.
Bart frowned, realizing he had made a slip of the tongue. “Well, it doesn’t matter anymore.”
Bettina couldn’t believe her ears. “Doesn’t matter? You’ve lied to me again and again. And now you tell me it doesn’t matter anymore?”
Bart moved closer to her, his voice tinged with frustration. “I haven’t lied to you all the time. As I told you, it’s not my doing. You chose not to believe me.”
Bettina’s eyes smoldered with anger. “Yes! I don’t believe you. I can’t be certain anything you say is true! You said the Lopez family desired love over wealth. Well, you’re way different from them. You said women are at your beck and call and mean nothing to you. For you, women like me are just tools. You were like this three years ago, and you still are. I mean nothing to you, and I’ve been so stupid to think you had a shred of conscience left. Just take a look at what you’ve done! Ugh!”
“You’re nothing but a scoundrel!”
In a fit of rage, Bart lifted Bettina and pulled her closer to him.
“I’m a scoundrel? Well, do you think Raul is a decent man?” Bart sneered.
“Don’t think I don’t know that you two are just pretending to be a couple. Miss Reeves, you can’t deceive me. You’re trying to provoke me, aren’t you?”
Bettina remained silent. Explaining to him felt futile. She didn’t believe she deserved a good man like Raul.

Right now, she was determined to get back at Bart for what he had done to her. She could use the same tactic to gather information, since Bart had the audacity to deceive her. She had to find something useful to use against him.
Bart admitted that he had accomplices. No! Those people could be the perverts pulling the strings! She needed to figure out who was behind all this.
“Yes, you’re right. I don’t love Raul. So what?” Bettina admitted.
“Break up with him,” Bart demanded, a smug grin playing on his lips.
Bettina cut to the chase. “What are your terms?”
“The Royal Garden Corporation is planning to establish a financial company under my sole management. I’ll offer you the position of legal counsel. What do you say?” Bart inched closer, an evil smile forming on his lips. He raised her chin. “You’re getting the hang of negotiating with me! That’s some good progress.”
Bettina contemplated for a moment, her lower lip caught between her teeth.
Her mind wandered back to a time when she knew little of Bart’s daily activities. Joining his company as a legal counselor was her way to bridge that gap, to gain insight into his affairs, especially now that Candice had left. She had to rely on her own wits.
