Chapter 1014
Chapter 1023:
As for Raul, though she felt sorry for him, she didn’t want to burden him further, especially after his recent departure from the Royal Garden Corporation and his own family matters to handle.
“Fine,” Bettina replied, her decision made. She got out of bed, gathered the clothes strewn across the floor, and prepared to get dressed and leave.
Bart abruptly knelt down, grabbing her wrist. He thought of something and posed a question, “Why didn’t you get pregnant during our time together? Did you use contraceptive pills?”
Bettina found this question somewhat absurd. “Of course! What else do you expect? You want me to have an illegitimate child?”
Bart furrowed his brows. “We could get married.”
Bettina’s hand froze mid-motion. She lifted her gaze to meet his and repeated his words incredulously, “Get married? Us?”
Her disbelief transformed into an almost mischievous smile. She stood up, questioning, “Bart, are you daydreaming? After everything you’ve put me through, do you think I will marry you, and we can start a family? Will my parents consent? And what about my brothers?”
She laughed so hard that she almost burst into tears. “Tell me, will you share a life with someone who had schemed against you all along? I didn’t expect you to be so naive, Bart Glyn!” She provoked Bart intentionally.
He knew her well. Well, she knew him as well.
If she’d accepted his proposal without resistance, he’d be suspicious. It was only through her apparent reluctance that he’d come to believe her.
True to her expectations, Bart’s anger flared. He discarded the clothes she had gathered, tossing them aside.
Then, he threw her onto the soft bed, his temper rising.

“What do you mean? You look down on me? Or does your family hold me in contempt?” Bart roared, his eyes nearly popping out.
This had always been the deepest thorn in Bart’s heart, and it was the source of his profound resentment toward Raul.
The Hinks family was among the wealthiest, especially in the energy industry. Even if Raul rarely took an active role in the family business, his mother wielded considerable power. If he inherited some shares, he would become extremely rich.
But Bart harbored a dark secret almost no one knew. He was not a legitimate member of the Glyn family.
He was merely the result of an indiscretion on his mother’s part—a product of an affair during a night of drinking.
For the sake of their interests and the family’s reputation, his parents never divorced.
