Chapter 45:
The display showed a flood of hit pieces regarding Ivy’s recent homecoming. Unnamed sources were trashing her reputation, claiming she had a messy life overseas and only came back because she ran out of options.
Every single post was toxic and cruel. It was obvious that the slander was cutting her to the bone.
Fury burned in my gut as I dialed my Beta. “Kill these articles immediately. I want to know exactly who started this smear campaign.”
Following that call, I tracked down the editor of the tabloid that ran the initial leak.
The man on the other end of the line fumbled for words for several minutes. Eventually, the pressure broke him, and he confessed. “This wasn’t our intention. It was your grandfather’s command. He said if you had any objections, you should ask him.”
My grandfather?
I took a deep breath and talked to Harold through the mind link.
“Was it your call to shove those rumors into the spotlight?” I demanded. My tone shook with a fury I was trying my best to hide.
Harold’s commanding voice echoed back at me instantly. “Yes. Interfering in your personal life was never my plan, but your behavior today is unacceptable. You ditched your morning meal to chase after that woman, dismissed my advice, and left Lianne behind.”
“My personal choices are none of your concern,” I snapped.

“Personal choices do not exist for the Alpha of the Thorn Pack. Every step you take reflects on our entire lineage,” Harold barked in response. “Lianne is your destined mate, and you are fully aware of everything she has given up for your sake. I refuse to let you wound her for the sake of a manipulator.”
No words came to me as I absorbed his lecture.
The sheer weight of Harold’s power flooded our link, pressing down on my lungs until I struggled for air.
“Remember who you are before you make another move,” he added in a sharp, derisive tone. “This is just a warning.”
My eyelids fluttered shut as the memory of Lianne’s unwavering expression flashed through my mind.
“Point taken,” I replied. “I’ll handle it properly from now on. But next time, please speak to me first before taking any action.”
Lianne’s POV:
I spent some time at the Voss estate, eating breakfast with Rola.
Just before I left, she pressed a gold-stamped invitation into my hand.
It was for the Thorn Pack’s grandest charity gala, a glittering mark of authority and rank.
“Take this and go with Ethan.” Rola gave the back of my hand a light pat. “I’m not young anymore. This is the sort of event where you should appear as the Luna. I’ll talk to Ethan myself.”
I lowered my eyes to the finely wrought wolf crest on the invitation, a bitter weight settling in my chest.
I had planned to turn it down, but the hope shining in Rola’s eyes caught the words in my throat, and in the end, I gave a slow, heavy nod.
I went to the company after breakfast. The instant the elevator doors parted, I ran into Ethan’s Beta, Noah Scott.
